The Malden First Church of the Nazarene in Massachusetts has recently announced opening a cooling center for locals around the area. The project is funded by the Malden City government and reportedly welcomes everyone in the city.

Local Church to Combat Hot Weather

As reported via Patch, on Tuesday, Aug. 2, Malden City opened two cooling centers around the area to combat the hot weather locals are experiencing. One of the centers is located at Malden First Church of the Nazarene at 529 Eastern Ave. in Malden, MA.

On its Facebook page, the church told locals to visit its cooling center, where they can enjoy cold drinks, snacks, free movies, and other types of entertainment. As announced, it opened on Thursday, Aug. 5, and Friday, Aug. 6, both from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.

According to the report, all who need to cool off at the church’s air-conditioned center must enter through the congregation’s rear pathway. Water will also be available for locals to enjoy.

If not near to the church’s location, Malden residents can head to the Malden City Hall’s first floor, located at 200 Pleasant Street. Similar to the First Church, the cooling center in the city hall is scheduled on Thursday and Friday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.

The Malden City said that all residents who feel like they don’t have enough cooling mediums in their home could go to the nearest cooling center within their area.

Hot Weather in Massachusetts

On Thursday, Aug. 4, Boston Herald reported that Boston in Massachusetts recorded about 98 degrees, one of its highest temperatures. Based on the WBUR report, the Thursday temperature almost reached the record-high temperature of 100 degrees that happened on Aug. 5, 1955.

As per the Mass Live report, officials in different cities in Massachusetts have already warned their locals to stay alert to the increasing temperatures in their areas. They said that municipalities like New Bedford, Rhode Island, Brockton, Lowell, and Providence might soon experience triple digits temperatures.

So far, cities like Boston, Worcester, North Adams, Springfield, and Hyannis, have already experienced almost 100 degrees temperatures. And experts said the heat wave could still happen over the next few days or weeks.

At the same time, NBC Boston reported on Sunday, Aug. 7, that locals might experience a few instances of heavy localized rain due to ‘scattered thunderstorms’ within Massachusetts.

Malden First Church of the Nazarene

As per its website, the Malden First Church of the Nazarene is a ‘thriving, welcoming Nazarene community.’ The congregation aims to transform the world into a ‘holier, more peaceful place to live.’

To do that, the church does a lot of things, including Sunday services and inviting locals to be part of their congregation. The church is also reportedly busy with its youth programs and community initiatives like the cooling center.

The church members believe that they are ‘disciples of the Lord,’ who wants everyone to have a deeper connection with God through understanding His Word in the Bible.
