Anderson Hills United Methodist Church is celebrating more than two centuries of devoted service to God and the local community. They started out in a simple log cottage, but now they have two campuses and a mission to aid people all over the world who are in need.

According to the church’s website, the ultimate goal of Anderson Hills is to bring glory to God by developing totally devoted followers of Jesus Christ who go on to change the world.

They have the dream of becoming a genuine religious community that teaches the Word of God to its members and sends them out into the world to spread the good news.

The mission of the Student Ministry at Anderson Hills is to help students develop meaningful relationships with one another while also encouraging them to seek God in all aspects of their lives and to create lifelong memories along the way.

They are a group of young people who have come together as a community with the hope that God will alter the world in and through them.

History of Anderson Hills

Around 1820, a gathering of individuals on Eight Mile Road began holding their gatherings in a humble schoolhouse constructed of logs.

Because Francis Asbury was the first Methodist Bishop in the United States, they decided to name themselves the Asbury Society in his honor. They received their charter to become the Asbury Methodist Episcopal Church in 1825.

In 1835, they made the initial purchase of a piece of land on Forest Road close to Asbury Road. There, they constructed a modest frame church and gave it the name Asbury Methodist Episcopal Church, according to the church’s website.

In March 1921, they purchased land close to where an Arby's restaurant is located now and renovated an old substation that belonged to the Interurban Traction Line.

They went through with the rebranding and are now known as the Forestville Community Methodist Episcopal Church.

When it became clear that the previous structure could no longer accommodate the congregation's needs, the church decided to relocate to its current location at the intersection of Beechmont and Forest streets.

On June 15, 1953, the congregation held its first service in the newly constructed building.
