Anderson Hills United Methodist Church (UMC) in Cincinnati prepared numerous activities for kids and families in the community this holiday season.

Holiday Events

Anderson Hills United Methodist Church commemorates the birth of Jesus with a wide range of festivities in which everyone, including families, can participate.

With their Advent series, the people of Anderson Hills UMC will examine the obstacles that prevent them from experiencing love, hope, joy, and peace in Christ "altogether" in their lives and in the world around them.

During each of the weeks of Advent, they will be reminded of the promises that God gives to them through Jesus Christ, which will turn their hopes and dreams into a reality.

Aside from that, according to the church’s post, Family Christmas ADVENTure will be held on Saturday, Dec. 3, from 10 a.m. to noon.

During this event, Anderson Hills is going to concentrate its thoughts on the real meaning of Christmas. This is a very well-attended event in which kids will engage in worship, hear a Bible narrative, engage in some enjoyable activities, and decorate some cookies.

They will have six services on the Saturday before Christmas Eve, which is on Dec. 24. The first two services are intended specifically for families with children. Childcare is available for infants up to children 5 years old during the Traditional service at 5 pm.

At the Salem site, the service that begins at 7:30 p.m. is held in a historic church that also features some more contemporary features. Carols are sung at every service, and candlelight is used. Cookies and other refreshments are provided during the break between services.

Lastly, on Christmas morning, Anderson Hills will retell the story of Jesus' birth while the community sings some of their favorite Christmas carols and enjoys a relaxed atmosphere together as a family.

History of Anderson Hills UMC

The history of Anderson Hills UMC dates back around the year 1820 when a gathering of individuals started gathering at a humble schoolhouse constructed of logs that were located on Eight Mile Road.

They gave themselves the name the Asbury Society in recognition of Francis Asbury, who was the first Methodist Bishop in the United States.

According to the church’s history, it became known as the Asbury Methodist Episcopal Church after receiving its charter in 1825.

Around 1835, they made the initial purchase of land near the intersection of Forest Road and Asbury Road, where they constructed a modest wooden structure and gave it the name Asbury Methodist Episcopal Church.

They went with "Forestville Community Methodist Episcopal Church" as the new moniker for the establishment.

The congregation eventually outgrew that facility, so they purchased the land at our current location at the intersection of Beechmont and Forest, and on June 15, 1953, they had their first service in the newly constructed building.

In 2020, they opened up a second location on Salem Road. Salem at Anderson is a sanctuary of healing and hope, and it serves the community of Mount Washington as a mission.
