40 Days for Life, a pro-life organization, celebrated 20,000 babies who have been saved from abortion.

On their website, they described their organization to be an "internationally coordinated 40-day campaign that aims to end abortion locally through prayer and fasting, community outreach, and a peaceful all-day vigil in front of abortion businesses."

The Holy See commended this endeavor, saying, "The Holy Father greatly appreciates the dedicated work that you and everyone involved in 40 Days for Life to promote respect for the lives of all unborn children."

20,000 Babies Saved

Through prayer and fasting, and holding vigils outside abortion facilities, the organization made a big announcement. On the website, they reported that since launching their program in 2007, 20,368 babies had been saved from abortion.

Through their effort, the organization claims to close 114 abortion clinics and is instrumental in convincing 229 abortion clinic workers to quit. Further, the organization said that since September 22, 850 lives had been saved.

Steve Karlen, Campaign Director, said, "We're winning because Planned Parenthood in the last decade has closed 36 percent of their locations." She also added that in the last 25 years, half of all abortion clinics had closed.

How Did It All Start

40 Days for Life began as a one-time effort in Texas in 2004, organized by local Christians to strengthen community efforts against abortion. Having heard of the campaign, other cities followed, and, soon, similar events mushroomed all over the United States. The first nationwide 40 Days for Life was conducted in 2007. Since then, the movement has become international.

The focus of the campaign is to unite the body of Christ against abortion. Invoking the power of God through prayer, fasting, and peaceful vigils in front of abortion clinics, the organization hopes to change the mind of those wanting to abort their babies. They provide counseling and free medical services to encourage them to continue with the pregnancy.

Believing that a united body of Christ can affect change, 40 Days for Life encourages Christians to participate in the campaign either individually or organize their vigil as a church.

Inspired by 2 Chronicles 7:14, which says, "If my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land" the organization is confident more and more babies will be saved from abortion in the coming days.

Abortion in Texas

According to Abort73.com, in Texas alone, 150 children are aborted daily. In 2020, there were 54,741 abortions conducted in the State. These statistics are alarming, considering that abortion kills an innocent child and victimizes the mother with feelings of guilt.

A 21-year-old woman in Dallas testified:

“The day I had my appointment, a lot of things happened, as if God didn't want me to take this step. The procedure was quick, but I was blank in mind. I didn't know what to think; I was in my own world. I wish to this day that I wouldn't have taken this step and instead kept my baby. I look at women with babies, and other women's testimonials, and it tears me apart. I wish I didn't take this step. I would have been happy not going against my beliefs.”
