Families with low incomes and homeless individuals will have access to necessary services and inexpensive housing at a new apartment complex in Riverside powered by solar energy.

The site used for the construction of Vista de La Sierra in the La Sierra neighborhood of Riverside is being leased by the Pacific Union Conference of the Seventh-day Adventist Church.

Riverside's Complex, Powered by Solar Energy

The construction of Vista de La Sierra began in June, and according to the officials, the project is anticipated to be finished in late 2023 or early 2024.

As part of Riverside's five-year strategy to cut down on the number of people sleeping on the streets, Pacific Union Conference's site will be one of the areas that will provide supportive housing.

As reported by MSN, there will be a total of 80 units, approximately half of which will be reserved for eligible families whose annual income is less than 60 percent of the median income for the area, and the remaining half will be set aside as permanent supportive housing for residents who do not have permanent shelter.

The state's program known as "No Place Like Home" will be tasked with providing funding for permanent supportive housing.

Stephen V. Mayer, treasurer and CFO of the Pacific Union Conference of Seventh-day Adventists, said that as a church, it is vital for them to lend assistance to the people who live in the surrounding area.

Mayer further noted that this initiative would provide families new hope and improve their community by constructing inexpensive housing.

Amenities at Vista de La Sierra

National Community Renaissance, also known as National CORE, is an affordable housing developer with its headquarters in Rancho Cucamonga. As per the report, the city, the county, and various nonprofit partners are constructing the apartment complex.

According to the officials, the amenities will consist of a community center providing services and activities for the residents, a pool and entertainment area, playgrounds, a community garden, and laundry facilities.

Also, residents will have access to various free on-site activities and community services, ranging from financial literacy training to assist with health and social issues.

Partnerships between National CORE and Riverside and other groups, such as Mercy House and the Hope through Housing Foundation, made these possible.

In addition to those amenities, the officials revealed that the more energy-efficient design would result in cheaper monthly energy expenditures.

Electricity and water are two resources that can be conserved through drought-resistant landscaping and plumbing.
