Sweet Home Missionary Baptist Church to hold 4th annual back-to-school program

The Sweet Home Missionary Baptist Church in Miami, Florida, is holding its 4th annual back-to-school program.

Back to School

As reported, the Sweet Home Missionary Baptist Church works with the Miami-Dade Police Department for the church’s 4th annual back-to-school community block party.

The event is set from noon to 3 p.m., on Sunday, Aug. 14, at the church premises. In the announcement, the church promises free school uniforms, backpacks, school supplies, food, haircut, hairstyling, and more.

Apart from the police department, the event is reportedly made possible by the help of Flavas Restaurant, Miami-Dade County, The Elijah Network, South Dade One Voice Community Coalition, and Women of Distinction #6. 

Sweet Home Missionary Baptist Church

The Sweet Home Missionary Baptist Church is a church that aims to holistically provide for all the needs of the congregation and communities.

The church’s mission is to make disciples, transform lives, and inspire through witness, all for the glory of God.

Sweet Home believes in the Holy Trinity that God exists in three persons but is one in essence and purpose. It also believes that the Bible, all the 66 books from the Old and New Testament is the authority for Christian faith and practice.

As a Missionary Baptist Church, the church believes that every true believer in Jesus Christ is part of the Body and Christ. It also believes that Jesus will one day return to the World to establish his kingdom.

Dr. Theo Johnson

Ptr. Dr. Theo Johnson, D.D., currently leads the Sweet Home Missionary Baptist Church. According to the church page, the pastor has been serving God and the ministry since 1999. The pastor reportedly pursues preaching and teaching the Word of God.

The pastor holds a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Communication from Prairie View A&M University and a Master of Theology Degree in Pastoral Leadership from Dallas Theological Seminary.

Further, he has a Doctorate of Divinity Degree from the United Theological Seminary.

According to Miami’s Community News, the pastor became the senior pastor of the church in 2013. 

During his installation ceremonies, the church has a special worship service, a night of worship, and a “Fun, Family and Friends Day Community Picnic.”

It added that he was already serving Sweet Home as its associate pastor for two years before his installation to the position. This fact helped the congregation, giving the pastor an overwhelmingly positive acceptance.

Flavas Miami is a restaurant in Miami known for its breakfast soul food.

The Elijah Network Family and Community Alliance, Inc. is an organization dedicated to ending underage substance use. According to its page, the organization focuses on entry substances as it believes that these are the ones that the youth are exposed to at an early age. 

The Elijah Network works with the South Dade One Voice Youth Coalition in its efforts to free the youth of South Miami-Dade County from drug use. Further, it partners with communities to ensure that the youth and their family are given the assistance and focus that they need.
