On the cusp of the start of the new school year, a coalition of churches and community groups collaborated and worked together to bring members of the community together to celebrate a new way of thinking.

Their "Harvest a New North" program focuses on spreading faith, hope, and love throughout the community while putting more of an emphasis on the chances for growth rather than the violence that might cause fear in people.

Churches, community groups collaborate for "Harvest a New North"

"Harvest a New North" is a movement to celebrate the opportunities accessible to families and children, and it is taking place as churches and community groups in Minneapolis collaborate for various reasons, including those mentioned above.

According to CBS News, a party was held on Saturday to celebrate everything wonderful about the community. There was entertainment for children, food for everyone, and vendors with resources to help people of all ages.

The focus has shifted away from the worst aspects of this community, including armed robberies, assaults, and carjackings, and toward the positive aspects of life, such as opportunities to improve one's situation.

It also stated that Wayman AME Church, Westwood Community Church, Shiloh Temple International Ministries, Zion Baptist Church, Hope United Community Development Corporation, Huntington Bank, and Franklin Middle School were the organizations that provided financial support for the event.

Pastor Norman Herrington said they are responsible for dispelling the myth around North Minneapolis, as every morning, there are children and parents who rise and get their children ready to go to school.

Herrington also mentioned that the amount of violence that occurs in their life probably amounts to that much, yet 99 percent of them are still getting up every day to go to work or school, which is something they should celebrate.

As per the report, the Franklin Middle School has been taken under the wing of this coalition of churches. Elders in the community believe that altering the way younger generations view themselves is the most important step.

Meanwhile, Pastor Richard Coleman said that they need to paint a picture of the community as they want it to be, which is one that embodies faith, hope, and love.

They believe any community that adheres to these characteristics and principles will benefit in the long run.

Elders in the community have stated that closing what they refer to as an "opportunity gap" rather than an "achievement gap" is their primary objective.
