Few students from the St. Thomas Aquinas High School (STA) in Edison, New Jersey, recently assisted a food pantry inside school. Around 16 high schoolers extended their hands for the Perth Amboy-based St. Vincent de Paul Society food pantry.

They organized the pantry to help those in need of food assistance.

According to its Facebook post, the STA shared that they poured their hearts out in the recent event.

Diocese of Metuchen Bishop James Checchio reportedly accompanied the students. Aside from that, school officials also joined them in their visit to the food pantry.

Campus minister Sister Cynthia Marie Babyak, along with Rose Riccardi, escorted the students. Mr. Kevin McCarthy, the director of service opportunities, also went with them.

As per the post, the students offered help in packing foodstuff. They eventually distributed the packed bags of food.

The Catholic school students reportedly donated for the initiative to help those in need. They revealed in their post that most of the food donations were given by students and families.

"The St. Thomas Aquinas High School family once again showed how big their hearts are," the school posted.

It added, "the STA volunteers were truly the face of God to everyone at the St. Vincent de Paul Food Pantry." Moreover, the church also reiterated that it continues to receive donations for Thanksgiving.

 A 'Spirit of Thanksgiving'

The STA stressed that the thanksgiving celebration in 2021 is "much better," based on its post. It emphasized that this was made possible through the "generous hearts of the Aquinas family."

The Diocese of Metuchen, meanwhile, echoed the sentiments of the New Jersey school. It said that the Catholic school students and faculty exemplified the "spirit of thanksgiving."

The faith congregation stressed that it was thankful to those who helped the food pantry. It also expressed its gratitude to those who assisted in the collection and distribution of food.

Apart from that, the Diocese thanked all the volunteers who were present on that day. The Diocese then confirmed that parishes and schools under its jurisdiction also helped.
