A Texas church recently got criticized after performing its own rendition of 'Hamilton,' a famous Brooklyn musical play. The performance was followed by a sermon by its pastor.

'Unauthorized' 'Hamilton' Play

In an article from The Dallas Morning News, The Door Christian Fellowship Ministries, a McAllen-based church, was reportedly receiving criticisms for performing an 'unauthorized' Lin-Manuel Miranda's award-winning musical play 'Hamilton.'

As per the report, the church performed, rewrote, and added biblical messages to the script of the play without authorization from the original creator of the musical play.

After the play, it was followed by a 15-minute pastor sermon that allegedly compared homosexuality to drug addiction, as reported.

Accordingly, Ptr. Roman Gutierrez of The Door Christian Fellowship Ministries, said that the church was not against the LGBT community and stressed that everyone is welcome in their church.

As reported, the pastor also confirmed that they received legal permission from the 'Hamilton' team to produce and perform the musical play.

However, the 'Hamilton' team reportedly denied the pastor's statement and said they did not grant any permission to perform the musical play.

The spokesperson of the team said that they will still be discussing the 'unauthorized' production of the church once all the information is gathered.

The play was reportedly produced by RGV Productions and The Door Christian Fellowship Ministries.

Creator of Hamilton's Response

The creator of the Hamilton musical play, Lin-Manuel Miranda, has recently responded to the call of the people and organization regarding the 'unauthorized' production of the McAllen church of his play, as reported on NBC News.

Miranda reportedly said on his Twitter account that their lawyers are now doing their work regarding the 'unauthorized' production of the church.

As reported, there was no case filed yet against the church, but the congregation has the possibility to be charged related to copyright infringement.

Also, the church was criticized for the play and rewriting the script without permission by the Dramatists Guild, an organization that reportedly represents the artists and scriptwriters.

The organization reportedly emphasized that no people, organization, or religious community would be exempted from the law, and no work should be performed and edited without the permission of the creator.
