The loved ones of slain teenager Miya Marcano held a 'Celebration of Life' service for her on Wednesday, Oct. 13. The service took place at Cooper City Church of God.

Vibrant Butterfly

According to a report with Miami Herald, the church gathering included a video presentation highlighting the teen's life. Mourners remembered Marcano as a "vibrant butterfly who could light up any room."

Those who attended the service noted that Marcano always smiled in the pictures. The 19-year-old's family also placed a crown on top of her blue casket.

Some of the guests who attended her funeral service on Thursday, Oct. 14, included Soca singers Skinny Fabulous and Lyrikal.

Fabulous offered a song for the teen, saying that they would continue to 'live and love for Miya.'

Dressed in Blue

In a report with Nicholson Student Media, Marcano's family and friends were dressed in her favorite color, blue.

Pastors Michael Vizcarrondo and Vinge Sigel led the service on Wednesday. Meanwhile, Pastor Norman Manning led Thursday's celebration.

According to the report, 2,000 people attended the service at the church. Those who could not join the event in person watched it online. The video had over 32,000 views.

The pastors told mourners that Marcano impacted the people who knew her despite her short life. They also commented that she influenced even those who did not know her personally.

Sigel mentioned that many people gathered to honor Marcano's "colorful life."

He admitted that he had never met the young girl, but her presence made him feel like he knew her personally.

Marcano's English teacher, Kristy Modia, also wrote a poem for the teen, which she read during the service. In the poem, Modia said that Marcano was 'wise beyond her years.'

She added that the teenager always taught about the future and never ran after "fool's gold."

Missing Teen

As reported by Miami Herald, the teen was a student of sports medicine at Valencia College. She also worked and lived at Arden Villas apartments in Orlando.

The family reported to the police that Marcano had a flight scheduled to her home in Fort Lauderdale on Friday, Sept. 24. But, she never made the flight.

According to the Miami Herald, Orange County Sheriff John Mina reported that they discovered the body of 27-year-old Armando Manuel Caballero.

Caballero was then named a person of interest in Marcano's disappearance. He worked as a maintenance worker in the apartment complex where she lived.

He allegedly showed interest in her, but Marcano refused his advances.

The report also said that the apartment complex received complaints regarding Caballero but was never addressed. The 27-year-old committed suicide a few days after Marcano was reported missing.

The teen's body was later found near the Tymber Skan on the Lake condominiums.

Marcano's uncle, Marvin, thanked the volunteers and strangers who helped them search for the teen. He also said the family was grateful for those who helped bring attention to Marcano's disappearance.

He promised Marcano that the family would not stop until she was given justice.
