Pomona Union Protestant Church in Galloway moved to new location

On Thursday, the Pomona Union Protestant Church was relocated to Smithville. It stood originally at the corner of Genoa Avenue and the White Horse Pike. The church’s new location is next to Smithville Bakery.

The Church Relocation 

The owner of SJ Hauck Construction, Steve Hauck, said that he knows the church's value and its long history is worth preserving. He understands that it is essential that the church remains intact in its new location.

The crew was on the site early on Tuesday and will dismantle the parts of the church by piece and rebuild it in Smithville. A crane will remove the roof then some features like the steeple will be cut to fit in small streets in the area, according to the source

Many people went back to Pomona Union Protestant Church and shared that one of the most important events of their lives happened in the church, like baptism and wedding.  

Historic Towne of Smithville owner Charles Bushar and Mayor Anthony Coppola expressed that they are honored and glad that the church is located in Smithville. 

According to Drew Fishman, a real estate broker, the church was planning to relocate the church five years ago. Two years ago, the church was dealing with logistics to discuss the transfer process.

Nantucket buys the land where the church was originally standing in Galloway and also owns land properties that surround the church. Some of the area's residents are impressed by how the operation was done, and the construction is unflawed. 

Demolition of  Churches Across the Country 

A century-old Methodist  Church in Pauls Valley will be demolished to give way to a new facility. The decision has been made, and the old church will be removed to build a new Methodist Church.

The church will be rebuilt to meet the needs of the growing congregation and church leaders, and the new facility will also last a century. 

St. Mary’s Protestant Episcopal Church is waiting for the approval of Baltimore’s Planning Commission to subdivide their church’s surrounding property. They plan to sell St. Mary’s Cemetery and a small stone chapel. 

One of New York's landmarks, West Park Presbyterian Church in Manhattan, is planned to be demolished, and Alchemy Properties will lead the demolition. A 19-story building will be built on the same spot the church is standing. 

The church's owners have decided to apply to the commission for de-designation, stating financial hardship and recommending selling to a developer. The congregation has only 12 or lesser members and no pastor to lead them. Also, the church has almost no financial funds to support and continue its purpose.

After more than a century of service to the community, a historic church in Fishtown may be demolished this week. The demolition of the old St. Laurentius Church may begin as soon as the city receives final permission from the Department of Licenses and Inspections.

Since the Archdiocese closed it in 2014 due to safety concerns, the building on East Berks Street has been slowly deteriorating.
