Summer Picnic Hosted by Calvary Church

Everyone is encouraged to bring their own food and drinks and join them for fellowship and fun at San Francisco's newest park where Calvary Presbyterian Church will be holding a summer picnic.

According to the church’s announcement, Calvary will offer some paper plates, napkins, utensils, and cups, and they have secured five tables at the picnic area by Larkin Street.

This park, which is located at 2445 Hyde Street, has four entries. However, the one that connects directly to the picnic area is the Larkin St. entry, which is the one that they recommend using.

As per the announcement, there is parking available for those with disabilities at the entrance on Larkin Street, next to the picnic area and the facilities.

Visitors who do not require disability parking can park in one of the parking garages or on the surrounding streets when they come to Ghirardelli Square.

Additionally, they suggest taking public transportation or walking.

All the information stated above is available on the church’s website, where they can sign up to join the summer picnic.

History of Calvary Presbyterian Church

In July 1854, the congregation of Calvary was formally founded as a congregation with 63 members, one of them was the mayor of San Francisco.

The first location was on Bush Street, between Sansome and Montgomery; five years later, Calvary moved to Union Square from its original position on Bush Street.

According to the church’s history, the congregation of Calvary began holding its services in the sanctuary that is located at its current location on the corner of Fillmore and Jackson Streets in February 1904.

The structure was recognized as a San Francisco Landmark in 1978 and added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1978 after it was determined that it had survived the earthquake that occurred in 1906.

As stated in its history, following health standards, Calvary temporarily shifted its outreach to the internet as the COVID-19 virus evolved into a global pandemic.

They adapted so that they may benefit the community's spiritual health along with its bodily health. Live Streams, zooms, and pre-recorded presentations replaced in-person services, lectures, performances, and even coffee breaks.
