New Beginnings Community Church (NBCC) in Redwood City, California, will host "GriefShare: Surviving the Holidays" on Monday, Dec. 12, at 7 p.m.
GriefShare: Surviving the Holidays
As stated in a church’s post, GriefShare: Surviving the Holidays Online Workshop at New Beginnings Community Church will include video interviews with grief counselors, grief experts, and other people who have experienced the holidays after the death of a loved one and who can offer helpful suggestions and reassurance to those who are grieving.
People who are suffering from the loss of a friend or family member are the target audience for the GriefShare program. They are aware that there are other things that might go wrong in life, which can lead to feelings of loss.
The church added people may be going through a difficult time because of the loss of a job, a divorce, a separation from a kid, or the loss of friends as a result of moving. Although this pain is very genuine, the kind of grief that is addressed in GriefShare sessions is not the same.
New Beginnings Community Church shared some myths and facts about grief and grieving.
According to the church, some people have the misconception that ignoring pain would make it go away faster, but the reality is that attempting to ignore pain or prevent it from coming to the surface will only make it worse in the long term.
It said it is vital for them to face their grief and actively deal with it in order for them to experience true healing.
They also mentioned that it is a common reaction to loss to feel lonely, scared, or depressed after the loss of a loved one.
They are not weak simply because they cry. People who are grieving do not have a need to "protect" their family or friends by putting up a brave front. Having the courage to express how they really feel can be beneficial.
