St. Ignatius Parish in San Francisco, California, offers a church tour as part of its "Preservation and Promise Campaign," aiming to rebuild the congregation.

Preservation and Promise Campaign

According to St. Ignatius Parish’s post, They are aiming to raise a total of $25 million in preserving the historic church in San Francisco.

In order to preserve the church, St. Ignatius Parish said it hopes to raise $18 million to restore the spires, cladding, roof, and stonework, as well as all 125 church windows.

In addition to this, they will install a new fire alarm system, rebuild the exterior lighting, renovate the building to make it more accessible, improve the ministry areas, and add additional restrooms. Finally, they will restore the church organ, pews, and kneelers.

The remaining $7 million will be used to increase its works for social ministry and faith development that were claimed to be transformative and sustainable through the implementation of dedicated programming that is funded by an endowment.

They intend to utilize it to upgrade physical venues, hardware, and software platforms, as well as provide new staff training in order to incorporate their "virtual parish."

St. Ignatius Parish also said it aims to establish a reliable and long-term financing source for Faith Formation in order to guarantee that it will continue to engage the next generations.

Per the post, St. Ignatius Parish has raised $24 million as of Friday, Nov. 18.

They cited the generosity of their parishioners as well as the effort that has been done by a large number of dedicated volunteers.

However, the church added that in order to achieve its overall objective, it required the assistance of every family that is part of the parish.

Through deep discernment, the parish commission and staff leaders, along with Fr. Greg, have identified the most pressing investment needs for the parish building and ministries as the focus of the Preservation and Promise capital and ministry campaign.

About St. Ignatius Parish

St. Ignatius Parish stands as a testament to the lasting impact of the Jesuits on San Francisco from the city's earliest days. It is found at the block of Market Street that runs between 4th and 5th streets.

The first Jesuit Fathers came to San Francisco from Italy in 1851, and the church was not dedicated until July 1855.

As stated on the church’s website, the church's recognizable dome and towers are visible from practically every part of the city.

St. Ignatius Parish claimed to be one of the most dynamic and involved Catholic communities in San Francisco, and its towers serve as a call to prayer, learning, and service.

They said the active and creative engagement of parishioners at St. Ignatius Parish, in the observance of the liturgy as a response to the community's lived experience, is the engine that drives the community there.
