O'Fallon HSHS St. Elizabeth's Hospital, ImpactLife to hold blood drive on Dec. 7

To help boost the local blood supply, HSHS St. Elizabeth's Hospital and ImpactLife encourage all eligible donors to make a blood donation appointment. Next week, on Dec. 7, both organizations will organize a blood drive from 11:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.

According to RiverBender.com, the blood drive will occur at the board conference room of St. Elizabeth's Hospital, located at 1 St. Elizabeth's Blvd., O'Fallon, IL.

Attendees should park near the hospital's outpatient entrance and enter the building by the outpatient entrance, marked with a blue "Outpatient" sign, as per the report.

Guests will be directed to the meeting room using additional directing markers. A long-sleeved t-shirt or a gift card will be given to all donors, the article stated.

Requirements

A blood donor can donate up to six times a year or every eight weeks. All people aged 17 and above (or 16 with a signed parental consent form) who weigh at least 110 pounds and are generally in excellent health are eligible to donate blood, the report bared.

On the day of donation, blood donors should be in good health and feeling good. Prospective donors should consume a full meal within four hours of giving, avoiding fried, greasy foods and entire dairy products, as stated on ImpactLife’s website.

People Not Allowed to Donate Blood

People with blood illnesses, such as leukemia, and those who have tested positive for Hepatitis B or C, are not permitted to donate blood. Those who are HIV-positive or who have recently been exposed to the virus, lymphoma, or Creutzfeldt-Jakob Disease will not be able to donate, the site revealed.

Donors who have taken Acitretin (Soriatane or Neotig) in the last three years or Dutasteride (Avodart or Jalyn) in the previous six months will be barred from donating. Other qualifications and information can be found on ImpactLife's website.
