For pickup and drive-thru only, this is how St. Luke's Methodist Church copes up with COVID – 19 pandemic. In the past years, the church provided a dine-in meal for everybody in need on Thanksgiving.

Drive-thru, Pickup Only

This year serving Thanksgiving dinner for St. Luke's Methodist Church is a special one. It's a drive-thru, from the tradition of serving dinner on Thanksgiving as a sit–down meal.

As reported in St. Louis Post Dispatch, the church offered Thanksgiving dinner for people to pick up. After a hectic preparation, Shari Scott told STL Post Dispatch that they were ready to serve up to 200 meals for Thanksgiving Day.

Scott, 69, volunteers at St. Luke's Methodist Church every week. Still, from the report of STL Post Dispatch, volunteers packaged the dinners in to-go containers for sanitation and ease of delivery. These were done before orders arrived.

On Thursday morning, a line of cars was spotted in the parking lot just before 11:30 a.m., when the curbside delivery started. St. Luke's Methodist Church arranged two stations for the cars to stop; one is to give their orders and a set of double doors further down the line where people will pick up orders.

Scott also shared that the church's pastor permitted Thanksgiving dinner distribution only if church organizers took proper precautions.

The church announced this event on its Facebook page; it stated that all are invited to get a home-cooked Thanksgiving dinner. The time for giving out dinner is from 11:30 a.m. – 1:00 p.m, Nov. 23.

St. Luke's Methodist Church also got the attention of volunteers who happen not to belong to this congregation. The Chace family does not belong to this church. The family lives in Crestwood.

Nonetheless, the Chances saw the event as an excellent opportunity to serve in the community. They brought along their children, ages 10 and 7. The kids helped in dispatching order forms and then assisted in handing them to people in cars.
