Summary: Assists the senior minister by providing administrative support in scheduling, coordination, and correspondence. Assists the senior minister in preparing for all Sunday worship and religious services, including all holy days such as Christmas and Eas er; edges, memorials, and weddings. This position is often privy to confidential information and requires compassion, diplomacy, and discretion.

Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

  • Assists minister with all Sunday worship service events and ensures that these are appropriately scheduled on the church calendar.*
  • Maintains and respects the minister’s time for prayer and meditation and ensures that other staff and congregants also appreciate it.
  • Prepares and copies the minister’s platform information for Sunday mornings and all religious services.*
  • Coordinates and maintains worship partner schedule and all worship materials for worship partners’ use on Sunday mornings and at other sacred services.
  • Creates PowerPoint slides for Sunday and other sacred services and distributes them to worship team members, including the video and sound techs.
  • Creates, manages, and maintains files and records for all religious services, such as Christmas, Burning Bowl, Easter, and Remembrance, to ensure continuity from year to year.
  • Serves as a liaison to community groups on behalf of the minister.*
  • Proofreads minister’s weekly devotional and other writings, as needed.
  • Assists minister with incoming and outgoing correspondence via mail, voice mail, and email as needed.*
  • Works with the minister to book and host guest speakers and coordinate their travel and accommodations, as needed.*
  • Maintains records related to Licensed Unity Teachers (LUTs), such as class offerings and class rosters, and coordinates communication between the minister and the LUTs.
  • Schedules christenings, weddings, and memorials, as needed. Provides all necessary materials and supplies for the minister for these events, including coordinating logistics, acquiring necessary supplies, and preparing certificates.*
  • Coordinates meetings for ministers with church teams such as Spiritual Café, Congregational Care, Worship Service, and Apostles, including setting up in-person and Zoom meetings and preparing agendas.
  • Coordinates materials and scheduling for new member classes and inductions.*
  • Provides general clerical support to the Executive Director and office personnel as needed.*
  • Acts as a telephone attendant representing Unity Atlanta, which includes relaying incoming and interoffice phone calls.*

Language Ability:

Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of congregants or employees of the organization.

Math Ability:

Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide into all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and draw and interpret bar graphs.

Reasoning Ability:

Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.

Computer Skills:

To perform this job successfully, an individual should know about Automated Church Systems, word processing software, spreadsheet software, and internet software.

Education/Experience:

Two (2) to four (4) years of related experience and training in administrative and secretarial dutieA two-yearear associate or four-year degree from an accredited college is helpful but not necessary.
