The Controller is responsible for directing the fiscal functions of the Church in accordance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles issued by the Financial Accounting Standards Board, and other regulatory and advisory organizations in accordance with financial management techniques and practices appropriate within the not-for-profit environment.
This position will be responsible for internal controls, contract administration, compliance with tax laws and regulations, budgeting and forecasting, accounting and financial reporting, general business analysis, decision criteria, and cash management.
In addition, the Controller will manage the support services areas consisting of finance, accounting, and cash control.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS Develop, implement and monitor written policies and procedures for the Finance and Accounting functions.
Ensure that all reporting for the Church is complete in accordance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).
Ensure absolute compliance with tax laws, regulations, and compliance reporting.
Coordinate the annual operating and capital budgeting process.
Supervise monthly general ledger close and preparation of timely, accurate and relevant reports and forecasts.
Manage the annual external audit.
Meet all deadlines for annual report.
Ensure the Church’s accounting and reporting systems are working correctly.
Manages the investment of the Church’s funds, analyzing and maintaining all of the Organization’s internal controls to ensure that safeguards exist for protecting all assets.
Ensures the Leadership Team and the Board of Trustees is advised of the Organization’s current financial position and operating performance and of trends that could impact the Church.
QUALIFICATIONS Candidate must have a growing & mature, demonstrated personal relationship with Jesus Christ.
A current church member of FBA or willing to become a member of FBA within the first three months of employment.
Bachelor’s degree in finance or accounting required, MBA, CPA preferred.
Six to eight plus years work related experience in Accounting/Finance required, preferably in religious not-for-profit.
Ability to maintain a high level of professionalism and integrity while protecting proprietary and confidential financial and other Church information.
Superior verbal and written communication skills (grammar, writing and editing) as well as presentation skills required to be able to professionally interact and communicate with individuals at all levels within the Ministry as well as with external Church members and other ministry organizations.
Ability to work in a fast-paced environment with demonstrated flexibility and the ability to manage multiple competing tasks and demands.
A team player with the ability to cultivate a team spirit within the Ministry area and the Church.
Effective problem analysis and resolution skills.
Ability to develop, plan, and implement Ministry and Church related short and long-range goals, as well as to interpret, adapt, and apply guidelines and procedures.
Proficiency with Microsoft Office Products (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
Ministry Platform/Shelby experience preferred.
