First United Methodist Church of Marietta is seeking a full-time Director of Operations to lead the day-to-day operations of this large church just north of Atlanta. This Senior Staff member reports directly to the Senior Minister and the role includes oversight of finance, personnel, facilities, food service and general office administration so that we may grow in faith and serve in love in our community and beyond.

Specifically, this position will include the following:

Finance:

Prepare the annual budget with support and input from staff and manage the cash flow position including overseeing the banking, investment, and loan/line of credit positions. Direct and lead the financial staff and volunteers in oversight of all accounting functions including accounts payable, posting of contributions, payroll, and audits as well as capital campaigns and fundraising utilizing church software (multiple programs). Provide regular reporting to committees and donors. Develop and maintain adequate financial controls. Act as liaison and provide support for other key committees (Stewardship, Scholarship and Endowment Foundation).

Finance functions are developed, directed and approved by the Finance Committee and/or the Church Treasurer.

Human Resources:

Administer the salary budget for clergy and lay staff including payment of wages and housing, appropriate deductions for taxing authorities, implementing salary adjustments and/or bonuses as authorized.

Manage the employee benefits programs including medical, dental, disability, COBRA, paid time off (PTO), life insurance and the 403(b) savings plan for the lay staff and act as liaison with North Georgia Conference of the UMC for clergy benefit administration.

Perform all pre-employment screening of applicants including background checks and I-9 documents. Maintain personnel files for all staff and coordinate annual performance reviews.

Provide input on issues of compliance, recommending changes and requisite updates to the Employee Handbook and implementing changes with lay staff.

Coordinate training programs for lay staff including CPR, first aid and safety/emergency procedures.

Human Resource functions are developed, directed and/or approved by the Staff-Parish Relations Committee, the Finance Committee and/or the Senior Minister.

Facilities and Food Service:

Supervise the Facilities Manager, Food Service Supervisor, and all maintenance, housekeeping and kitchen staff to oversee the equipment, operation, cleanliness, safety, security and upkeep of all church facilities, grounds and vehicles. Ensure compliance with licensing, fire and safety codes, and food service regulations as well as evaluate property insurance programs and facilities usage policies.

Oversee the church calendar and scheduling of all events to provide appropriate space and setups for meetings of the congregation and the community, including appropriate collection of fees.

Facilities functions are developed, directed and/or approved by the Board of Trustees.

General Administration and Legal:

Coordinate the work of administrative assistants and the receptionist in support of the various ministries and programs.

Work with legal counsel when required or requested. Ensure compliance with all applicable governmental regulations and requirements.

Negotiate contracts with vendors and service providers. Responsible for IT, copiers and telephone systems. Assess staff office space and equipment, recommending changes and improvements.

Church Committee Responsibilities:

Attend regularly scheduled meetings of the Finance Committee, the Board of Trustees, the Stewardship Committee, the Endowment Foundation Committee, the Church Council and the Annual Charge Conference. Responsible for providing key information and reports, as needed or requested.

Assist the Senior Minister, Program Staff and other church committee members as needed.

Education and Experience:

A Bachelor's Degree and minimum of 5 years of management experience are required. Knowledge of The United Methodist Church is preferred and knowledge of non-profit organization management is a plus.

This is an exempt, salaried position (38 hours/week) starting at $80,000 or commensurate with experience.
