Overview:
The Maintenance & Property Manager is responsible for the successful operation, maintenance, and appearance of Virginia-Highland Church’s buildings and grounds, overseeing all systems: plumbing, electrical, HVAC, lighting, and fire safety, grounds cleaning, etc. in pursuit of our mission to Do Justice, Love Kindness and
Walk Humbly with God.
Position type:
This is a part-time, 20 hour a week position with Health benefits.
The work schedule is flexible but needs to be a consistent shift each week.
Reporting to:
Supervisor: Rev. Edna Cruz, Business Manager
Direct Reports: None
Specific Duties
● Inspect buildings and grounds at least twice a week.
● Custodial duties: Maintenance of all public areas (coordinating with cleaning crew).
● Weekly trash and recycling collection and removal, including vendor issues.
● Weekly roof inspection; Including sweeping roof top & inspection of gutters.
● Stocking bathrooms, changing light bulbs, including clean-up as needed, etc.
● Setups and breakdowns of classrooms, meeting rooms, and other public areas.
● Supporting tenants and addressing issues in rented spaces.
● Completing in-house repairs and renovations when possible; reporting all others.
● Sending out tenant notices (text, email, etc.) when scheduled work needs to be conducted.
● Installing new equipment for VHC as needed.
● Maintaining the appearance of grounds, including shrubs, weed removal & mowing of grass, etc.
● Respond to property issues with volunteer Building Committee;
● Maintain relationships with current vendors;
● Seek vendor price quotes, contracts, invoices for all building needs in collaboration with
Business Manager and volunteer Building Committee;
● Meeting building inspectors/vendors and resolving deficiencies; this includes walk throughs, hiring & reporting as needed.
● Respond to property issues (email, calls, text, etc)
● Collaborate with Business Manager with inquiries about tenancy, events and space rentals
● Floor stripping & waxing as needed.
● Other building-related work as assigned by Business Manager and/or Pastor.
● Attend Staff Meetings Tuesday’s at 11:30am and/or all other meetings as needed.
● Occasional “On call” requests are possible as needed.
Qualifications and Requirements
●Knowledge and skills of basic carpentry, sanitation, light plumbing and basic yard work (landscaping);
● Organization skills and attention to detail (excel knowledge preferred for reporting purposes);
● Maturity and flexibility in working with a diverse membership with competing priorities;
● Pleasant, positive, helpful attitude with staff, members, tenants, and vendors.
Desired Experience:
Two years of Maintenance work, Carpentry and/or facility maintenance and must have own reliable transportation.
