The Salvation Army, an internationally recognized non-profit, faith-based organization, has an opening for an Mission & Cultural Ministries Assistant for the Southern Territory Headquarters, located in Atlanta, Georgia.

Job Summary

Responsibilities include providing project management by managing and coordinating high-level complex Mission & Cultural Ministries projects, researching and compiling information, providing Mission & Cultural Ministries operations support, designing and composing concepts/ideas for annual reports and printing materials for annual meetings, coordinating departmental project activities, and events. Coordinates, monitors, evaluates, and participates in the day-to-day operations of the Evangelism & Adult Ministries, Cultural Ministries, Men’s Ministries, Older Adult Ministries, Missions Ministries, Community Care Ministries, Veteran’s Ministries, Ministry Tool Kit and Soundcast Departments; ensures the accomplishment of the various office tasks and projects in the most efficient and effective manner possible; cross-trains and supports all office assignments concentrating on targeted deadlines and quality standards; prepares various routine and special reports to keep the department head abreast of progress; ensures office operations are in compliance with established departmental policies and procedures. Performs a variety of clerical and administrative tasks necessary to support the seven officers of the Evangelism & Adult Ministries, Cultural Ministries, Men’s Ministries, Older Adult Ministries, Missions Ministries, Community Care Ministries, Veteran’s Ministries, Ministry Tool Kit and Soundcast Departments.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Knowledge of general office practices and procedures. Knowledge of effective and efficient record-keeping and bookkeeping practices and procedures. Knowledge of the English language including proper grammar and punctuation. Knowledge of basic mathematics. Knowledge of basic social media skills. Ability to learn and become proficient in specific computer software. Ability to maintain an efficient and organized filing system to ensure that items can be retrieved in a timely manner. Ability to answer the telephone in a courteous and tactful manner. Ability to maintain the confidential nature of the work. Ability to follow instructions, plan and organize work, and work under limited supervision. Ability to meet attendance requirements. Ability to read, write, and communicate the English language. Ability to perform routine mathematical computations. Ability to type information into a computer. Ability to sort and file documents alphabetically and numerically. Ability to operate various general office equipment including a telephone, Dictaphone, typewriter, computer, and adding machine. Ability to concentrate and pay close attention to detail with constant breaks in concentration associated with answering phones or speaking in person to clients requiring assistance.

Education and Experience

Two years course-work from an accredited college or university, with additional office administration experience preferred, and Knowledge of Salvation Army Programming, and Two years’ experience performing clerical work in an office environment, with event planning, and preferably project management, or Any equivalent combination of training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.

Licenses & Certifications: Valid State Driver’s License

Physical Requirements/Working Conditions

Constant amount of physical effort required associated with hand movement, holding, finger dexterity, reading, writing, eye-hand coordination, vision, hearing, talking and sitting at least 90% of the work time; rare to occasional amount of physical effort required associated with walking, standing, lifting up to 30 lbs., pushing, pulling, climbing, bending, squatting, crawling, and reaching at least 30% of the work time. Work is performed in a normal office environment where there are little or no physical discomforts associated with changes in weather or discomforts associated with noise, dust, dirt, and the like.
