Roswell Presbyterian Church seeks an organist and accompanist for our traditional services as
part of a thriving music ministry in a large, suburban Atlanta, Presbyterian church.

About the Role

We are seeking an organist who:
1) Can reflect their relationship with Christ in their day to day professional and personal
life.

2) Will serve the congregation with the highest quality of skills that reflect both ability and
creativity.

3) Has the ability to work well with clergy, staff, and congregation members.

Primary Duties

  • Position is part time, 20 hours per week
  • Play for 3 Sunday worship services including the 8:15AM in the historic sanctuary, 9:45AM,

and 11:15AM services in the sanctuary

  • Serve as principal organist and pianist for all regular and special seasonal worship services

including but not limited to Christmas Eve, Ash Wednesday, Good Friday, etc.

  • Serve as the accompanist for the adult choir rehearsals
  • Serve as the principal organist for funerals and weddings including the right of first refusal
  • Accompany concerts presented by the Music Ministry
  • Perform music administration duties designated by the Director of Music
  • Schedule soloists and ensembles for the 8:15AM worship service
  • Work with the Director of Music and Director of Worship to plan music for worship services
  • Participate in worship planning meetings, music committee meetings, choir retreats, and choir

tours

  • Assist the Director of Music in overseeing the tuning and maintenance of all organs and pianos
  • Assist the Director of Music in providing qualified substitutes for all absences

Job Qualifications

The Applicant should possess the following:

  • Significant experience playing in a traditional worship service
  • Minimum of a bachelor’s degree in music; advanced music degrees are preferred
  • Ability to work well with others in a collegial manner
  • An understanding of church music and liturgy in the Reformed Protestant tradition
  • Demonstrated ability to:

Play a range of appropriate pieces from the classical organ repertoire with superior
proficiency in terms of technique and interpretation
Lead the congregation in singing hymns and refrains with confidence
Improvise music as needed to provide continuity in worship effectively and artistically
Accompany the chancel choir and soloists and other ensembles in a manner that is
responsive to the conductor and supports the ensemble

About Roswell Presbyterian Church

RPC offers four worship services each Sunday: 8:15am in the Historic Sanctuary, 9:45am in the
Main Sanctuary, 11am Contemporary Service in the Gym and 11:15am in the Main Sanctuary.

About the Instruments
Roswell Presbyterian is home of the Casavant Frères organ Opus 3789 that was completed in
2000 along with the sanctuary. The organ has three manuals and pedals, 47 stops, and 68 ranks
with electro-pneumatic action. The main sanctuary also features a Steinway grand piano.
Services in our historic sanctuary utilize our Allen organ.
