POSITION SUMMARY

The Children and Youth Ministry Director will support the ministry goals of Zion Hill Baptist Church (ZHBC) and provide spiritual, relational, organizational, educational, and administrative leadership for the Youth and Children’s Ministry. The Youth and Children Ministry Director shall seek to foster a solid Christian Education program through building relationships with teachers, Zion Hill Youth ( children, youth, and teens), parents, and church leaders that strengthen the youth’s commitment to the church and growth in faith in Jesus Christ. The Director will introduce, instruct, and nurture the Youth in their Christian faith and life through Bible study, prayer, fellowship, worship, service, and evangelism. The Director will seek to engage the Youth in the physical and online/virtual spaces by the church’s operations and guidelines.

JOB DUTIES AND EXPECTATIONS

  • Develop a Children and Youth Ministry strategic plan that supports the mission and vision of ZHBC
  • Oversee the ministry and develop Youth in their Christian spiritual and social development by instructing and training children and youth to understand and implement the Bible into their lives
  • Coordinate, promote, implement, and further develop a quality Christian Education for Youth, including leading stimulating weekly programs and generating new ideas
  • Work with the Youth and Children’s Ministry Leaders to recruit, train, and supervise volunteers to meet the church’s educational program requirements and abide by its Child Protection Policy
  • Maintain communication with the Pastor, the congregation, and the community regarding Youth activities
  • Promote and publish all activities through Zion Hill digital and print communication tools
  • Participate in the preparation and development of the budget for the Children and Youth Ministry
  • Actively recruit Youth and young families through church-supported activities and programs in the community
  • Responsible for assuring that the Youth are considered and included within the life of the Church
  • Participate with other Christian ministry professionals in the community as opportunities arise that fit within the church’s purpose and ministry vision
  • Encourage and coordinate outreach opportunities and summer programs for the Youth as appropriate
  • Establish and maintain a relationship with the Youth and their families. Seek out and meet with the Youth, sharing their joys and concerns and challenging their spiritual growth. Minister to their needs (counseling) and make appropriate care referrals when necessary
  • Organize and coordinate field trips for different age groups when it is safe to do so and by current church operating guidelines
  • Coordinate all dates for activities with the church office
  • Have at least four designated office hours per week
  • Interact with all persons in a Christian spirit of love and service and shares the vision, philosophy of ministry, and commitments of Zion Hill Baptist Church

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

The Youth and Children Ministry Director plays a significant role in the faith development of all ages within the church, both as a leader and as an example, and possesses the following traits:

1. A sense of call and a passion for working with children and youth and team members – ability to inspire; ability to relate to children and youth and be able to teach them about Christ

2. A vital relationship with Jesus Christ, spiritual maturity, high moral and ethical conduct

3. Friendly, enthusiastic, and flexible team approach while working with youth, parents, staff members

4. Good organizational, teaching, administration, and computer/technology skills and ability to recruit, train, organize and motivate volunteers for youth and children’s ministries

5. An understanding of child and adolescent development and skill level

6. Spiritual gifts including but not limited to leadership, administration, and teaching; teachable, servant’s heart; team builder and team player

7. A degree or background in a relevant field of study. Masters of Divinity, Master of Arts in Religion, or Religious Education preferred

HOURS OF WORK
The Youth and Children’s Ministry Director's part-time salaried position requires flexible hours, including evenings and weekends. The number of work hours required during any given week are needed to fulfill the job's responsibilities. The schedule may vary at different times of the year. The Director will work on

Sundays and other specific times agreed upon with Pastor and Zion Hill Baptist Church. Additionally, it is expected that the chosen candidate will:

  • Keep the church office, the Pastor, and Administration Minister informed of their contact information
  • Provide appropriate notice to the Administration Minister of unforeseen absence from regularly scheduled hours, events, or duties, and provide a suitable substitute in case of anticipated absence
  • Adhere to hours and schedule discussed and agreed upon with the Pastor and Church Staff
  • Seek approval for professional development training from the Pastor and Administration Minister
  • Participate in opportunities for periodic review and goal setting
  • Contact the Pastor and Administration Minister with any concerns that may arise

Until further notice, ZHBC is operating virtually in the pandemic, resulting in modified work hours for the staff.

The church temporarily operates virtually, with only essential staff participating in limited services. CDC COVID-19 protocols have been implemented campus-wide. Everyone must adequately wear a mask, socially distance, and wash their hands.
