The Building Caretaker (BC) oversees the care of our church building and grounds, performing light maintenance tasks. The BC supports our ministry and program staff by preparing rooms for all activities of the congregation and also prepares the building for use by tenants. The BC with support from the Director of Operations, cleaning service, contractors and vendors, and the Prudential (building) Committee, ensures that the building is well cared for and that necessary maintenance is performed. The BC reports to the Director of Operations.
Responsibilities Include:
- Coordinate and prepare the building for all scheduled activities in the church including minor cleaning; setting up and taking down tables, chairs, and other equipment for both regular events and meetings/rentals
- Provide facility support needs for Sunday morning activities (including opening/closing, setup and breakdown, cleanup, and trash removal)
- Conduct regular inspections of the building to identify repair and maintenance needs
- Clean rooms as necessary between visits of the cleaning service
- Perform routine and seasonal maintenance tasks (such as preventive maintenance, painting, light shoveling/salting, etc.)
- Perform minor repairs; coordinate major work with Director of Operations and Prudential Committee
- Maintain inventory of cleaning and maintenance supplies
- Act as Sexton (custodian) for events requiring custodial services (first option for hours outside of weekly base)
- Other duties as assigned

- Must have valid driver’s license and ability to drive for occasional purchasing of maintenance and repair supplies
Physical Requirements
- Ability to lift and/or move up to 40 pounds
- Ability to safely use hand tools and small power tools
- Physical and manual dexterity to perform maintenance tasks at various heights, strong sensory perception, and ability to carry objects up and down stairs
- Ability to use ladders safely up to 24 ft.
Required schedule availability
Part-time 20-25 hours per week
- Sunday Mornings 8AM-1PM (7AM-1PM during adverse winter weather)
- The remaining hours are flexible, typically spread out over 3-4 additional days and will be negotiated with the Director of Operations based on the needs and activities of the Organization.
- Flexible schedule to help accommodate events such as funerals, weddings, concerts and to respond to unexpected needs so that the program activities of the church proceed smoothly
- Available by phone for emergency needs
