SUMMARY

This position reports directly to the Committee and Field Support Manager, and would offer practical and metaphysical support to the Committee and Field Support team and Committees on Publication worldwide related to how they engage with and embrace the members in their field and manage their individual Committee offices. The primary focus will be on supporting and furthering the mission of the department, “to correct impositions on the public in regard to Christian Science, injustices done Mrs. Eddy or members of this Church by the daily press, by periodicals, or by circulated literature of any sort.” (Church Manual, p. 97) The individual who holds this position understands and values that all activities and projects undertaken by the Committee on Publication should be corrective — healing — in nature, and will be supporting various needs of the Committee and Field Support work.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Provides metaphysical support to the Office of the Manager of Committees on Publication in carrying out the work of the Christian Science Committee on Publication, pursuant to Article XXXIII of the Manual of The Mother Church. In obedience to the Manual provision that “the State Committees on Publication act under the direction of this Committee on Publication,” referring to the Manager, contributes to the spirit of doing the Committee work together as church members — for church and as a church.
  • Works together with the Committee and Field Support team to facilitate the annual Committee on Publication appointments under the Church Manual Article XXXIII, Sect. 3. This includes the tracking of appointment information using an online contact and data management program, supporting communications with appointing Readers worldwide, and coordinating with the Office of Language Services to provide translations or interpretations into other languages.
  • Working alongside the Committee and Field Support team, supports Committees on Publication in embracing their Christian Science field in this Manual-provided work. This includes participating in conversations with Committees and listening together with them for what will most bring blessing and healing to their field — all focused on the opportunity that members have to metaphysically and practically contribute to the correction of impositions on public thought regarding Christian Science, which begins by knowing what’s true about our healing practice, our church, our Leader and our members.
    • This may include:
      • Helping Committees communicate with Assistant Committees on Publication in branch churches/societies as well as with members of their Financial Support Committees (comprised of Readers from the three largest branches in their jurisdiction).
      • Helping Committees embrace and communicate with members in their Christian Science fields, including preparing quarterly newsletters, church visits and church talks, and responding to needs and inquiries from members.
  • Oversees the updating and managing of the Committee on Publication private website, including preparing and posting bulletins and resource pages, as well as considering the website’s general functionality, design and content.
  • Coordinates various translation and interpretation needs of our office by serving as primary liaison with the Office of Language Services.
  • Admininsters online records database systems such as Salesforce and M-Files, and assists with finding historical paper records — for research and informational purposes — by working with the Office of Records Management.
  • Working alongside the Committee and Field Support team, provides support to Committees on Publication related to the operation of their individual offices and operations, which may include issues related to technology, finances, administration, legal entities, etc.
  • Provides administrative and technology support to activities for individual Committees and groups of Committees, such as calls and written communications.
