The Coordinator of Youth and Parish Faith Formation at St. Bartholomew Parish in Needham is focused on providing opportunities for young people to grow in faith, especially through preparation for reception of the sacrament of Confirmation. The right candidate for this position will work to provide both young people and adults opportunities to practice their faith and participate in the sacramental life in the Church.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Faith Formation and Confirmation
- Develop, organize, and implement grade 7-10 faith formation programming for young people and families
- Coordinate sacramental preparation for Confirmation (grades 9-10), including retreats, rehearsals, and ceremonies
- Assist with sacramental preparation for any candidates for RCIA in grades 7-12
- Recruit, train, and support volunteer catechists, and assist them in their own spiritual growth
- Prepare and oversee the budget for Faith Formation in collaboration with the pastor and business manager
- Youth Ministry
- Facilitate a variety of opportunities to invite young people and families to grow in their personal relationship with God and to participate in a community of faith, including but not limited to opportunities for prayer, worship, service, study, and leadership formation
- Recruit, train, and support volunteer youth and adult youth ministry leaders, and assist them in their own spiritual growth
- Parish Life
- Work collaboratively with clergy, staff, and parishioners
- Coordinate existing parish prayer groups, Sunday parish community events, and occasional adult faith formation opportunities
- Coordinate Lectors, Extraordinary Ministers of Holy Communion, and Acolytes, in cooperation with the pastor and volunteers
- Coordinate child safety procedures in accordance with state and archdiocesan requirements including CORI forms and Protecting God’s Children/Virtus training for adults, and safe environment lessons for youth and families
- From time to time, assist with other parish formation programs, including but not limited to, baptismal preparation and adult faith formation
- Exercise pastoral sensitivity and maintain appropriate confidentiality
- Maintain professional relationships with other local and archdiocesan faith formation leaders
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Practicing Roman Catholic with a demonstrated fidelity to Church teaching, living the life of a disciple, and committed to building a culture of discipleship among youth and families
- Familiarity with Sacred Scripture and Church documents regarding catechesis and evangelization
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively with parish staff and volunteer catechists
- Commitment to ongoing professional development and interaction with colleagues
- Strong communication and organizational skills and a confident public speaker
- Ability to motivate youth and parents with flexibility, creativity, and enthusiasm for falling in love with Jesus and the Church
- Bachelor or master’s degree in theology, pastoral ministry, or a related field, with experience in Catholic faith formation and youth ministry preferred
- Available at times convenient to youth and families, including evenings and weekends
