Good Shepherd Parish in Wayland is seeking a Director of Faith Formation. The specific focus of this position is directing the religious education for K-5, including sacrament preparation for Reconciliation and First Eucharist. The faith formation program for young families includes coordinating monthly parent speaker series concurrently with classes. These sessions focus on equipping parents as primary educators for their children.
The director will also coordinate discipleship programming for the parish, including small faith groups, the parish mission, and special ministry Masses. The director will collaborate with the Pastor, Director of Confirmation and Youth Ministry, and other pastoral staff members to further the mission of evangelization and discipleship in the parish.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
Develops goals and objectives and implements strategies for a comprehensive faith formation program that serves K through 5, including preparation for sacraments.
Develops and implements a coherent and unified curriculum and catechetical plan.
Directs and oversees various faith formation programs that support a lifelong deepening of the Catholic faith for all parishioners consistent with the Catechism of the Catholic Church (CCC), National Directory for Catechesis (NDC), diocesan guidelines, and parish needs.
Is responsible for recruiting, orientation, and training volunteers/catechists to conduct the K-5 catechetical program.
Develops a speaker series for K-5 parents focused on equipping them to share faith with their children.
Assures volunteers/catechists receive mandatory “Safeguard the Children/Virtus” training and establishes and implements appropriate training programs for catechists to receive required certifications.
Assures that Archdiocesan programs for Child Safety are implemented in the curriculum.
Researches available materials and provides necessary primary and supplemental materials for all programs and processes.
Takes the lead in preparing for Sacramental celebrations.
Provides support to the formation team for training, resources, and programs.
Coordinates Sacrament Preparation Monthly Masses and Family Retreats.
Develops and promotes a small group faith-sharing program.
Coordinates special community Masses such as Mass of Healing, Mass of Remembrance, and New Family Welcome Mass.
Coordinates parish mission and additional evangelization and discipleship programming.
Collaborates with the Pastor, Director of Confirmation and Youth Ministry, and other pastoral staff members to further the mission of evangelization and discipleship in the parish.
Participates in bi-weekly ministerial team meetings.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES REQUIREMENTS:
Knowledge of Catholic doctrine and beliefs as presented in the documents of Vatican Council II, the Catechism of the Catholic Church, and other relevant Church and Catechetical Documents.
Ability to assess needs and use results to develop catechetical processes.
Leadership and teambuilding abilities to direct religious education and Sacramental preparation programs.
Excellent planning, organizational, and collaborative skills.
I practice Catholicism with in-depth knowledge and training in theology and liturgy in the Roman Catholic tradition.
Excellent written & oral communication, interpersonal skills, and the ability to work well with others.
Computer literacy.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Degree in theology, pastoral studies, religious education, or a related field. Commensurate professional experience will be considered.
Experience in parish ministry.
Excellent communication skills
Ability to work well with a team of volunteers.
Working understanding of curriculum, design, lesson plans, and text correlations.
Compliance with criminal background checks and Safe Environment policies.
Competency in Microsoft Word and Excel. Competency in other Microsoft Office programs is a plus. Familiarity with ParishSoft is a plus.

JOB TYPE:
Full-time exempt position, 40 hours per week. Frequent weekends and some holiday work will be required.
All parish employees and volunteers require a background check and Safe Environment training.
Salary will be commensurate with experience and qualifications for the position.
