Position responsibilities:

Finance related

  • Budgeting and forecasting
    • Preparation of strategic financial plan in collaboration with staff and in support of the Brothers’ priorities and goals
    • Management of annual operations and capital budget process including estimating costs for proposed new initiatives
    • Preparation of reports and updating projections as necessary
  • Accounting
    • Oversight of accounting function and annual audit
    • Financial statement preparation based on not for profit accounting rules
    • Coordination of legal and banking transactions, including securing financing arrangements as necessary
  • Endowment oversight
    • Oversight of internal investment reporting and coordination of investment activity with investment managers and custodians
    • Liaison with Investment Advisors and other Advisor groups
  • Management of financial staff (1 FTE) and external parties (e.g., auditors), liaising with staff including development team and Brothers

Other responsibilities

  • Management of the Society insurance package
  • Facilities risk analysis and management in coordination with Facilities Manager
  • Human Resources:
    • Management of the SSJE Human Resources function, including payroll and benefit administration – an early priority will be to evaluate whether some or all of this function should be outsourced to a third party
    • Maintenance of the SSJE Employee Handbook
    • Maintenance of employee personnel files and information

 

Required skills: In addition to professional competence in areas listed above, the ability to work effectively and collaboratively with a broad range of constituents, including Brothers, staff, vendors, advisors, volunteers, and other professional relationships. The successful candidate will be skilled at explaining and teaching financial concepts to the Brothers to support them in making informed financial decisions, and will also have hands on financial and accounting skills with a thorough knowledge of not for profit accounting rules particularly as it relates to endowment funds. Good chemistry and communication skills are extremely important for this role. A thorough understanding of both the investment process and accounting for the investment process is mandatory.

Experience: Financial experience in a nonprofit preferred. CPA preferred. College graduate required.
