The Roslindale Food Pantry is operated out of the Roslindale Congregational Church, UCC (RCC) and has been the center of the church’s mission for over 40 years. The Food Pantry provides food to families in Roslindale and Hyde Park three Saturdays per month, serving more than 200 families per month. Food is also distributed to Roslindale House and Longfellow House, two nearby senior housing complexes, delivering food to 150 residents per week. We also partner with other non-profit organizations in Boston to provide food assistance to their community members.

The Food Pantry Manager is responsible for the overall operations of the pantry. Sourcing food from various partners including local grocery stores, farmers market, and other food entities including the Greater Boston Food Bank. This role nurtures and optimizes existing logistical arrangements, partnerships, and volunteer support and works to further develop these networks of logistics and human capital.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Oversees food pantry operations.
  • Efficiently sources, circulates, and distributes healthy foods to clients by organizing all logistics around food intake and distribution.
  • Maintains personnel safety, food safety, and cleanliness standards across pantry operations, and ensures maintenance of equipment.
  • Keeps accurate records, including monthly reports to the Greater Boston Food Bank.
  • Sets up distribution events, drives, loads, and unloads vehicles with the help of volunteers.
  • Manages staff and oversees the volunteer experience in the pantry.
  • Manages all volunteers working within the pantry.
  • Ensures effective collaboration with the Greater Boston Food Bank and partner programs.
  • Continually develops and promotes pantry as new opportunities, collaborations, innovations, and best practices emerge.
  • Develops and updates program planning with pantry volunteers.
  • Works collaboratively with RCC Food Pantry Team to develop food pantry systems and reports out monthly.
  • Engages in community education and communication to spread awareness about food security systems and opportunities for residents to engage in and support the organization’s efforts.
  • Seeks out and writes grants for operational and financial support, program support and/or community partnership opportunities.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Driver’s license with a clean driving record and ability to drive a cargo van*.
  • Able to lift 50 pounds repeatedly, sit or stand for long periods, and work in extreme temperatures
  • Computer skills in word processing, databases, spreadsheets, social media, and e-mail. (Owning a reliable laptop a plus.)
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills, capable relationship builder, able to foster cooperation
  • Passion for ending hunger and awareness of food assistance system and programs
  • Strong administrative and organizational skills; highly detail-oriented; ability to balance priorities and manage time effectively
  • Experience in managing personnel
  • Project and inventory management experience

*Owning a van or truck is a plus, though not a requirement. Pick-ups on Saturday mornings can be significant.

Must complete the Greater Boston Food Bank administrator training program after being hired.
