SUMMARY

The Issue Developer of the print and online versions of The Herald of Christian Science is responsible for planning and producing the monthly Herald magazine in Spanish. The Issue Developer may also be the Staff Editor in Spanish, and as such reviews, grades, edits, and communicates with authors for all submissions to JSH in that language.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Curates and supervises production of Spanish print and online editions of The Herald of Christian Science.
 

  • Determines all print and web content in conjunction with the Associate Editor supervising the Herald.
  • Is familiar with all JSH editorial assets and puts together a magazine that meets the specific prayer needs of readers.
  • Knows the status and content of each piece in the magazine and online.
  • Inputs all articles into the content management system (K4).
  • Assists the Designer and the Web team by ensuring that the art, design, layouts, and format work harmoniously with the text and are culturally sensitive.
  • Manages translation team for all translations, revisions, proofing and copyediting and approves final copy.
  • Sends for translation selected content from the Journal, Sentinel, Herald, and Monitor and manages translation of submissions into English if necessary.
  • As a Staff Editor, may review, grade, and edit submissions in Spanish.
  • As a Staff Editor, may collect verifications for pieces originally published in Spanish.
  • Sends testimonies recorded in Spanish for transcription.
  • Sends revision letters to authors for translation into Spanish.
  • Translates into English letters and comments from the field and, together with Associate Editor (and sometimes Product Manager and other related parties), drafts a response in English to be translated and sent in Spanish to readers.
  • Develops themes and writes copy for home pages in Spanish on JSH-Online.
  • Is responsible for meeting all deadlines.
  • Coordinates with JSH audio team, web team, and BMPS.
  • Occasionally records audio programs/podcasts (in English and/or in Spanish)
  • When possible, communicates with the Field and individuals to encourage submissions of articles and testimonies.
  • May serve as liaison on the translation committee at The Mother Church.
  • Other projects, as assigned by management.

JOB REQUIREMENTS

Education / Experience

This position requires familiarity with the Herald fields and fluency in Spanish. A Bachelor's degree, or the equivalent in experience, is required. Three to seven years of professional experience in project management, production and editing, or an equivalent experience in a comparable field required.

Knowledge / Skills
 

  • The issue developer must be deeply familiar with the Bible and Mrs. Eddy's writings.
  • The individual must be aware of political, cultural, and social developments in the countries served by the Spanish Herald, as well as the needs and interests of its readers.



Work Environment

PreferenceforonsiteworkinBoston, but may possiblyworkremotely with periodic visits to theBostonoffice as needed.

Technology Skills

Knowledge of business office computer operations and K4 content management system.

Christian Science Information

Membership in The Mother Church and Primary Class instruction required. Branch church membership and/or active in the public practice of Christian Science desirable.
