Sacred Heart Parish and Saint Bridget Parish {aka, Lexington Catholic Community} must fill its position of Sacred Music Director. The Lexington Catholic Community serves the entire Catholic Community of Lexington and draws participants from surrounding communities. The liturgical community has many needs. Sacred music supports the worship of people with varied needs. The Parish Music Director [hence: PMD} must strive to select liturgical music which will provide a solid prayerful experience. The parish seeks a person with excellent liturgical music skills committed to their Catholic faith. The skills of the PMD augment the full, active and conscious participation of parish members.

The PMD is a member of the Parish staff. The PMD reports directly to the Pastor and collaborates with the parish staff members to fulfill the church's mission. The PMD must have an appreciation for music that will strengthen the faith of the worshiping community and will attract parish members who struggle to participate in the church's liturgical life. Moreover, the PMD will constantly seek to increase their faith to serve as a witness to the staff and parish community.

Candidates for this position must possess the academic qualifications, demonstrate insights for building the liturgical community, have skills to enable parishioners to be complete, active, and conscious of the mission of the Church, and meet all requirements for employment in the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Boston. The candidate is welcome to submit recommendations. Pope Francis States the following characterization of church ministers:

Synonymous with a genuinely religious spirit, filial trust in God, and the capacity to pray to him with love and simplicity that belongs to those humble of heart.

Their example of faith, even beyond the job's demands, should call others to grow in their relationship with Jesus and his Church.

RESPONSIBILITIES

The PMD is responsible for music at the parish Masses each weekend. This responsibility includes planning appropriate liturgical music for Mass. The PMD will recruit and assign personnel for the music at liturgy. The PMD must be aware of the differences in each liturgy. The PMD must demonstrate talent to continue the youth choir that participates at the 9:00 AM Mass on Sunday.
The PMD will recruit and prepare an Adult Choir. The choir will participate in liturgies of both parishes.

The PMD will participate, plan and organize liturgical music for Solemn Feasts, Major Feast Days, Holy Days of Obligation, and Liturgical celebrations that need music support. The PMD will exercise the obligation for Liturgical Music at the celebration of Confirmation, First Eucharist, Reconciliation Services, and Liturgies necessary to bring peace and comfort to parishioners, Funerals, Weddings, etc.

Creativity and vision are essential needs of the PMD. The liturgical music must raise the consciousness of participants so that they more fully appreciate the transcendence of God and appreciation of their need to minister to all in need.

Several major feasts need enhancement with the participation of additional musical instruments. The PMD will strive to choose assistance from musicians who are grounded in our faith background. The PMD meets with the Pastor to discuss and plan all significant liturgies. Every liturgy, service, and activity must always have a basis in our Catholic faith.

Specific Administrative Responsibilities

PMD complies with all copyright laws.
Designs proofs and prints and distributes worship programs for liturgies.
Provides supervision and direction for music when guests musicians will participate.
Prepare and submit an annual budget for approval to the Director of Parish Finances.
The PMD will schedule routine services for parish instruments.
Implements diocesan and parish policies concerning music and liturgy.
Maintains names, addresses, email, and telephone numbers of persons who assist in liturgical music.

Personal Expectations

Promotes unity and harmony in the parish community.
Reports to the Pastor meets periodically with the Pastor and meets with all members of the parish music staff to inform them of their responsibilities.
The PMD will advance their knowledge, skills, and faith by regular participation in workshops, courses, and seminars specifically for musicians,
The PMD will meet with persons planning specific liturgical celebrations. The PMD will understand the need for evangelization, understanding, and comfort.
Participation in parish staff meetings.

Employment
The PMD will be a full-time staff member. Salary and benefits will conform with the Archdiocesan program.
