Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in graphic design or related field is required, plus at least three years of related professional experience
•
The incumbent must possess an understanding of the fundamental concepts, practices, and procedures of editorial design, advertising design, and typography
•
The incumbent must have strong creative vision, problem solving aptitude, sound independent judgement, and proficiency in design skills
•
The incumbent must have a demonstrated desire to work as a collaborative member of a creative team
•
The incumbent must be a “self-starter” with a demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously while meeting deadlines
•
The ability to astutely receive, interpret, and implement client and manager direction in a humble manner is essential
•
This position requires a working knowledge and proficiency with the Adobe Creative Cloud (InDesign, Photoshop, Illustrator, Acrobat Pro), Google Drive, and Microsoft Office
•

Responsibilities
•
The design service operates as a center of excellence [CoE] to maintain appropriate quality and consistency across the organization
•
P&DSG collaborates with client departments to develop and implement the overall artistic and design vision of the publications, products, communications, marketing, and promotional materials of TFCCS and CSPS
•
Under the direction of the Design Manager, the incumbent carries out all functions of this position in alignment with the organization’s vision and mission and the department’s principles
•
The Staff Graphic Designer is primarily responsible for implementing design projects independently and in collaboration with P&DSG management, P&DSG staff, client department management, and client department staff
•
This position also supports the integrity and composition of files according to design standards and procedures
•
The process includes participation in client discussions as they relate to design, and the use of independent judgement is expected
•
This position represents one of the designers who may participate in agile product development as a cross-functional team [CFT] member as assigned
•
CFTs are structured and empowered to organize and manage their own work in such a way as to complete the priorities established by the Product Owner with quality ensured by the Design CoE
•
This position is part of the design services responsible for the curation and editing of photos for various products, publications, and websites
•
In the following areas, this role works collaboratively with client departments, service groups, P&DSG staff, and P&DSG management in the development of design collateral and/or products
•
Design Project Implementation and Product Development (50% to 100% as assigned)
•
Works with client departments, services groups, P&DSG staff, and P&DSG management to gain a shared understanding of project objectives through the use of creative briefs
•
Supports strategy development for promotion, collateral, and products as needed
•
Completes projects for client departments as assigned (by self or P&DSG management)
•
May include: books or other products, print and digital promotion, departmental collateral, image curation for print and digital products, and other projects
•
Participates in design iterating, user testing, and incorporating user, client, and stakeholder feedback
•
Prepares design files according to printer specifications and reviews and evaluates proofs
•
Builds and maintains templates to reflect standards, as needed
•
Curates, captures, and edits photography
•
Creates illustrations
•
Maintains and organizes electronic files according to professional standards and practices; archives completed jobs
•
Uses independent judgment to make decisions
•
CFT Member, as assigned (up to 50% as assigned)
