Department: Bible Lesson Products SUMMARY

You will play a vital role in the production of non-English editions of the Christian Science Quarterly. You will be responsible for coordinating the translation and editorial preparation of the non-English editions of the Quarterly, supporting the faithful rendering of the Bible Lesson for audiences around the world. This role requires a detail-oriented master organizer undaunted by multiple tasks.

You must have a global outlook with some intercultural fluency and support the worldwide mission of the Christian Science movement. You will be able to confidently work independently and as part of a team, and demonstrate joy, humility, and clarity in a prayerful, production-oriented, deadline-driven environment.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Coordinate the editorial preparation of non-English editions of the Quarterly published by CSPS. ( 40%)
  • Develop and maintain translation assignment schedules to meet production deadlines.
  • Administer translation and proofreading trafficking work.
  • Communicate with and support translators to ensure that work is performed according to department standards.
  • Consolidate and review records of editorial adjustments to translated editions of the Bible Lessons and verify their implementation.
  • Maintain upkeep of translations database, Plunet, dossiers, references, and style books and make sure they’re up to date.
  • Provide technical support to translators.
  • Provide administrative and logistical support related to translations. (35%)
  • Administer process and workflow changes.
  • Prepare vendor payments.
  • Coordinate interdepartmental legwork and execute communication plans for any notices and correspondences related to translations.
  • Organize and maintain archived records and files.
  • Takes primary responsibility for onboarding and training of translators. (15%)
  • Functions as primary trainer for new translators.
  • Support Translations Manager in recruiting translators.
  • Train translators in using Plunet and translations databases, and provide ongoing support as needed.
  • Prepare and update assessment, training, and retooling resources as needed.
  • Coordinate and execute logistics in the contractor setup process
  • Assist and support special projects (5%)
  • Participate in Bible Lesson Products projects as needed.
  • Research translation related topics and issues.
  • Coordinates Bible Lesson portion of non-English Bible review projects.
  • Support Translations Manager in executing department’s contributions to Translations Group projects and initiatives.
  • Coordinate with licensed groups (5%)
  • Provide working files to all licensees and archive their published work.
  • Administer contracts, copyright agreements, licenses and corresponding renewals.
  • Maintain files and records required from licensed groups.
  • Support volunteer translation activities.

Supervision: Reports to Translations Manager, Bible Lesson Products

Supervises: None

Regular Contacts

The incumbent will work with translators, licensed groups, Bible Lesson staff, has contact with other departments that work on translations, occasional contact with the Treasurer’s Office and other internal departments.

Education/Experience

JOB REQUIREMENTS

This job requires a bachelor’s degree. One to three years of office experience. Project management experience is a plus.

Knowledge/Skills

Humility, patience, grace, warmth, flexibility, enthusiasm, eagerness to learn. Absolute ability to maintain confidentiality. Strong organizational skills and adept at managing multiple tasks. The incumbent is a global thinker familiar with cultures outside North America and has a demonstrated ability to communicate effectively with non-native English speakers. Fluency in a language other than English is a plus. The incumbent is culturally sensitive, possesses solid interpersonal skills and can foster and nurture strong working relationships. Must be a self-starter who can work independently as well as part of a team.

Must have a deep love for the Pastor and the Bible Lesson and a clear understanding of their unique place in the Christian Science Movement.

Technology Skills

Proficiency in Microsoft Office or Google Apps is required. Familiarity with Adobe Acrobat, Indesign, and Plunet is a plus.

The incumbent must be flexible, highly disciplined, and self-motivated, yet able to work as a team member with others on the BLP staff.

Christian Science Engagement

Primary Class Instruction And Mother Church Membership Are Required.

Hours and Location

This is a full time (37.5 hours per week) position, on site in Boston.
