Position Summary: Responsible for assisting with all financial components of the Bay Presbyterian Church (BPC) with a primary focus on the areas of accounts payable, accounts receivable, credit card reconciliation and maintaining the congregation’s contribution records.  Serves as the primary contact for members regarding financial matters. 

 

Essential Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Sunday Offerings/Accounts Receivable: Process the Sunday morning offering through reconciling the worship services and mailed donations, running the remote check deposit and updating contribution information for members. Manage and process online giving system and monitor website process and language. Reconcile and post receipts to the general ledger. Prepare office receipts for bank deposits.  Manage the receipt system and communicate to staff members regarding it.  Maintain Operating Fund Analysis Spreadsheet.  With the care department, keep track of memorial donations. 
  • Accounts Payable: Process all payables in a timely manner making sure all payment vouchers are properly completed and authorized. Investigate and resolve payment or documentation discrepancies. Disperse petty cash. Prepare checks for accounts payable, presenting checks to designated management for signature.  Mail or deliver checks to recipients.  Work with staff to understand payable system for effective processes.  Reconcile and manage company credit cards.  Reconcile and manage the EFT system.  
  • Financial/Budget Analysis: Help generate financial reports and provide financial information to other staff as needed. With the Director of Finance, help employees understand their budget lines and their utilization when receiving funds or requesting payment.  Assist in financial analysis projects as designated by the Director of Finance, Lead Pastor or Executive Director.  Assist internal/external audit teams for continual compliance.  Help manage the Monthly/Year End Reconciliation of funds regarding accounts receivable and accounts payable responsibilities.
  • Member Assistance: Assist church members with their tithing questions and needs especially in regards to online giving. Issue tax receipts and thank you correspondence for specific donations. Generate giving statements to contributors for tax reporting. Update member records in the database as needed. Assign and order contribution envelopes. Manage other giving tools that congregation utilizes regarding giving. 

 

Required Skills and Abilities:

 

·       Previous experience in bookkeeping or handling financial records.  Must be able to maintain strict confidentiality of all accounting records, member/visitor contributions and all church affairs.

·       Excellent computer skills with a working knowledge of Microsoft Excel, Google Suite and the ability to learn new financial software.

·       Thorough attention to detail with ability to work on a team.

·       High moral character and integrity with a heart for serving the Lord through the administration ministry of the church.

·       Supportive of the mission of BPC.

 

Minimum Qualifications, Education and Experience:

  • High School diploma; BA preferred
  • 3 or more years work experience in finances or bookkeeping
  • Strong computer skills (Microsoft Office Suite, Google Suite) with the ability to learn new systems
  • Satisfactory background check required for all positions
