Housing and Donations Coordinator - Migration & Refugee Services

Under direction, ensure that the activities of this position and relevant programs are consistent with the mission, vision, and values of Catholic Charities, Diocese of Cleveland.

  • Secure and furnish safe and affordable housing for refugees and other eligible populations prior to arrival.*
  • Communicate with volunteers to coordinate housing set-ups and donation pick-ups.*
  • Set up homes and pick up donations in absence of available volunteers.*
  • Stock and maintain donation room with basic household items (brooms, soap, detergent, sheets, etc.).*
  • Establish and maintain relationships with landlords to secure safe and affordable housing and mitigate any housing issues.*
  • Visit homes pre- and post-arrival to identify and/or diagnose basic maintenance concerns and communicate those concerns to clients, landlords, volunteers and other staff.*
  • Establish tracking system for in-kind donations.*
  • Collaborate with staff and volunteers.*
  • Guide clients through signing of lease agreements.*
  • Maintain accurate records and documentation.*
  • Attend meetings related to program objectives.
  • Develop additional resources to help serve clients.
  • Perform other duties as necessary to accomplish objectives.

  • Normal office environment.
  • Frequent travel throughout Cuyahoga County and other counties within the diocese including refugee homes, local parishes and schools for outreach, volunteer support and volunteer recruitment. This travel may include locations not on public transportation.
  • Finger dexterity, holding, grasping, repetitive motion to manage correspondence, faxing, copying, answering phones, forms/documents, computer keyboard and client files required on a frequent basis.
  • Analyzing and interpreting data, statistics;
  • Frequent reading, writing, hearing, talking, sitting, walking to receive instruction and communicating with people, working at desk, developing reports, reading documents, walking to meetings etc.
  • Ability to bend and lift at least 40 lbs on a frequent basis for moving and lifting donations.
  • Combination of education and experience normally represented by a Bachelor’s degree, with 2-3 years of relevant work or life experience in working with refugee families.
  • Possess knowledge of the Cleveland area, particularly of the transportation system and health, social service and government agencies used by refugees.
  • Must be at least 21 years of age at the time of hire.
  • Must be willing to work a flexible schedule that includes evenings, holidays and weekends.

  • Must have the ability to effectively manage a variety of concurrent and varying activities.
  • Good working knowledge of computers and familiarity with Microsoft Office software.
  • Must have a valid Ohio Driver’s License, provide a copy of driver’s license, and are subject to a Moving Vehicle Report (MVR) check through the Department of Motor Vehicles annually. Any MVR grade of “unacceptable” is not permitted to operate a company or personal vehicle on behalf of Catholic Charities.

Experience

Required

  • 2 year(s): 2-3 Years experience working with refugee families
  • Capable of working with a diverse population.

Preferred

  • Experience with or knowledge of tenants' rights, utility assistance programs, lease agreements, utility transfer, etc. preferred.
  • Experience working with volunteers preferred.
