Description: The Music Ministry Coordinator is responsible for collaborating with the pastor, staff, and volunteer cantors and musicians to plan and execute parish liturgical celebrations, including sacramental celebrations. The Music Ministry Coordinator develops and directs cantors and musicians to provide music leadership on Sundays and other special liturgies that will lead parishioners to full, and active participation in liturgical celebrations. The scope of this role is to discern, plan, prepare and implement music opportunities for everyone in the parish.
Responsibilities: • Collaborates with the Pastor, staff, and volunteers to provide a strong music program • Directs the parish music program - selects, and plans music for use in liturgical celebrations (4:30pm Saturday Vigil Mass, and 8:30am and 11:00am Sunday Masses and all Holy Days. • Oversees scheduling of cantors and musicians for Sunday, Holy Days and other special liturgies, including weddings and funerals • Oversees the development of an Adult Choir as well as a Children’s Choir and encourages participation in the Mass Ministry • Prepares worship aids for liturgical celebrations, as needed • Participates in Parish meetings, as needed These responsibilities are to be carried out in an effective and dedicated manner with the heart of a servant-leader.
Competencies and Skills: • Knowledgeable of and comfortable with leading music ministry programs • Proficient in voice and either organ or piano • Understanding of Catholic practices and liturgical music • Ability to work effectively with a wide variety of people of all ages • Proficient in computer skills, including email, Microsoft Office products and website publishing
Other essential attributes include: excellent organization and communication skills (verbal and written), a proven track record of music ministry leadership, and the ability to deal tactfully with a diverse group of people. A practicing Catholic is preferred.
