Make a difference in students’ lives by guiding them through the many decisions they make during their high school careers. Notre Dame Academy High School in West Los Angeles is seeking a full-time academic and college counselor for the 2023-2024 school year. The ideal candidate will be bilingual in Spanish and will have several years of successful high school academic and college counseling experience.

The academic and college counselor serves as a member of the guidance team to support students’ academic achievement, assist them in their personal development, and establish effective pathways to best fit colleges and universities. Working with the faculty, administration, students, and parents, the counselor will have primary responsibility for guiding and mentoring students in grades 9 through 12 in their academic, college, and career pursuits.

Duties and responsibilities include:
Fostering a growth mindset and a culture of learning where all students can learn
Being sensitive to an academically, socioeconomically, culturally, and ethnically diverse population
Guiding first generation college students and parents through the college application process
Designing and implementing interventions for student success
Providing support and minor adjustment plans for students with learning differences
Collaborating with faculty colleagues to address student needs and supports
Helping students plan their academic course schedule each year
Assisting students in navigating the college search, application, and financial aid processes
Completing and submitting letters of recommendation and school reports to colleges and other institutions
Developing and maintaining effective relationships with college representatives
Coordinating school-wide testing (AP exams, PSAT, Star testing, extended time final exams)
Meeting one-on-one with each assigned student multiple times throughout the school year
Presenting to small and large groups of parents and students to prepare them for high school success and college readiness
Conducting presentations and events in the evenings or on the weekend on occasion
Gathering and analyzing school data to assist with academic, college, and student life programming
Moderating a student club or affinity group
Planning and leading an East Coast or West Coast college tour over Easter break

Requirements
Master’s degree in school counseling
PPS credential
Two or more years of high school counseling experience
Strong technology skills
Experience with Naviance and PowerSchool, preferred
Excellent communication and organizational skills
Bilingual in Spanish, preferred
Commitment to an inclusive and equitable working and learning environment

Wage Range
The rate of pay offered to the selected candidate is based on internal pay policy and budget. New hires are commonly paid at the minimum of the wage range or within the lower part of the range. We consider a number of factors when making compensation decisions including, but not limited to, skill sets, experience, training and other department needs.
