POSITION SUMMARY

The Academic Data Specialist will play an integral and collaborative role on the Onward 4 Excellence Team. Onward 4 Excellence was developed by the Archdiocese of Los Angeles and is supported by the John H. and Cynthia Lee Smet Foundation. The vision of Onward 4 Excellence emphasizes a focus on student learning by fostering the learning of leaders and teachers. The Academic Data Specialist is responsible for collecting, organizing, analyzing, interpreting and reporting student and school performance data as it relates to student achievement across grades TK-12. The Academic Data Specialist is responsible for maintaining accurate and confidential data files. The individual will ensure that the Onward 4 Excellence team has timely access to accurate data, so they may adjust and continuously improve school supports with a continued focus on the vision of growth for Catholic schools in the Archdiocese of Los Angeles. The individual will collaborate with the Onward 4 Excellence team to equip school leadership teams with the information and analysis to reach their goals of academic excellence.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

Because all Archdiocesan employees represent the Roman Catholic Church, they are expected to conduct themselves according to the goals and missions of the Church in performing their work.

  • Support the Onward 4 Excellence Team in the collection, disaggregation, and reporting of data, including, but not limited to:
    • Design and manage surveys and other data collection tools that ensure high-quality and accurate submissions for all routine data collection throughout the year across all major functional areas of our schools.
    • Manage collection process and follow-up as needed with schools for prompt and high-quality data submissions.
    • Develop and maintain historical student and school data files to monitor performance.
    • Create user-friendly and accurate reports throughout the year from collected data, including both internal and external reports.
    • Compile data from multiple assessments to develop student, subject, grade-level, or school or regional profiles.
    • Ensure the validity of all data reported
  • In collaboration with the Onward 4 Excellence Team, interpret and review collected data.
  • In collaboration with the Onward 4 Excellence Team, attend and lead as appropriate, training sessions and site meetings related to assigned responsibilities.
  • Collaborate with the Onward 4 Excellence Team (ES and HS) on a weekly basis, specifically attend the assigned weekly collaboration time.
  • Support the professional development of the Onward 4 Excellence Team in the use of data.
  • Develop and maintain professional rapport and trust with principals and teachers.
  • Any other duties assigned.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education and Experience

Any combination of education and experience likely to provide the required knowledge, skills, and abilities, typically:

  • Technical proficiency in database tools, spreadsheets (including Pivot Tables, complex formulas, chart design etc.), programming languages, and other relevant areas.
  • Bachelor’s Degree required; quantitative degree field preferred.
  • School based experienced preferred; however, a comparable amount of training, experience, and skills necessary to perform effectively in the position will be considered.
  • Experience working with data from various types of vendors.
  • 2-4 years of relevant experience
  • Strong analytical capabilities

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Knowledge of:

  • Data collection and processing software.
  • Systems thinking and strategic planning.

Skill in:

  • Clearly explaining academic testing and statistical data.
  • Communicating, both in writing and orally, technical information in a way that is understandable to people without technical training.

Ability to:

  • Collaborate effectively with staff form various areas of responsibility.
  • Independently learn new software and processes as they become available.
  • Take initiative, be forward thinking, plan and manage multiple tasks in a timely manner.
  • Develop and maintain effective, working relationships.
  • Drive to LA Archdiocese office and school locations.

Physical and Environmental Requirements:

  • Occasionally lift up to 20 pounds.
  • Sit for sustained periods of time on a daily basis.
  • Perform tasks requiring intermittent bending, stooping, and walking.
  • Sustain frequent movement of the fingers, wrists, hands, and arms.
