Incardinated in the Archdiocese of Los Angeles
Familiarity with the Directory for the Ministry and Life of Permanent Deacons of the Congregation of the Clergy
Familiarity with the National Directory for the Formation, Ministry, and Life of the Permanent Deacons in the United States
Interpersonal Communications
Drive and possess a valid California Driver’s License
Responsibilities
The Associate Director of Deacon Ministry assists the Director of Deacons in the oversight, assignment, spiritual care, and ongoing formation of permanent deacons in the Archdiocese.
The Associate Director of Deacon Ministry, who is to be a deacon, will have regular communications with the Office of the Vicar for Clergy and the Office of the Vice-Chancellor/Sr.
The Associate Director of Deacon Ministry should be familiar with the scope and intent of the National Directory for the Formation, Ministry, and Life of Permanent Deacons in the United States, especially the post-ordination components.
The Associate Director of Deacon Ministry will participate as a member of NADD (National Association of Deacon Directors) and collaborate with other diaconate directors in Region XI.
Functions as a representative of the Archbishop in carrying out his duties of ministering to those Deacons ordained to service within the Archdiocese
Assists the Director of Deacons in planning and facilitating events to foster a community spirit among Deacons and their families (annual gathering with the Archbishop, Deacon Memorial Mass, Deacon Christmas party, etc.)
Assists the Director of Deacons in planning and facilitating spiritual retreats for Deacons and their wives
Assists the Director of Deacons in planning and facilitating opportunities for ongoing formation for Deacons
Assists the Director of Deacons as needed in fulfilling the administrative functions of the Office of Deacons in the Ministry
Serves as an ex-officio member of the Deacon Council
Works collaboratively with the Diaconate Formation Office to ensure newly ordained Deacon transition smoothly into ordained ministry
Shows care for the sick and retired deacons and their families and deacon widows and widows and their families through visitations.
Assists the Director of Deacons in ensuring compliance with the requirements of the Safeguard the Children program through Virtus Training and recertification
Sit for sustained periods daily.
Perform tasks requiring intermittent bending, stooping, and walking
Sustain frequent movement of the fingers, wrists, hands, and arms
