Campus Ministry Team Member – Full-time position for the 2022-2023 school year

Description – Loyola High School is accepting applications from qualified persons seeking a full-time position in Campus Ministry for the 2022-2023 school year. Candidates must demonstrate evidence of effective communication, collaboration, and successful teaching pedagogy. Ideal applicants should be open to professional growth and committed to participation in a Jesuit secondary education setting and must demonstrate evidence of effective communication, collaboration, and aptitude with educational technology.

Experience teaching: Theology I and II

Theology I – Intro to Catholic-Jesuit Education; Introduction to the Study of Theology; In-depth study of Sacred Scripture, namely Hebrew Scripture and the Four Gospels.

Theology II – Theological Study continues with the exploration of the person of Jesus and the emergence of the Early Christian Community begun in 9th grade. Utilizing exegesis, critical analysis, and reflection upon the New (Christian) Testament, students will Examine the life of Christ and the call to discipleship. Students will uncover the implications of the Gospel for a moral life. The art of Ignatian discernment for personal moral decision-making in daily life is introduced. The course then turns from personal morality to the implications of the Gospel for building the Kingdom of God through the tenets of Catholic Social Teaching and the Jesuit/Ignatian emphasis on a Faith that does Justice, while forming men for and with others.

Primary duties: Within the context of a 7-period rotation, the teacher will teach five periods of theology in a college-preparatory environment. This involves lesson planning, lesson presentation, student assessment, and individualized student support as needed. Faculty members are also part of a professional learning community for one period.

The teacher is expected to develop, plan and present lessons to students in a classroom and online, utilizing course material and other appropriate learning material. The teacher is expected to supervise, monitor, assign and evaluate students. In addition, the teacher will establish and maintain the standards of student behavior needed to achieve a functional learning atmosphere in the classroom, maintain appropriate and timely records of student progress, communicate with parents, and establish and maintain an effective environment for students, in order to foster learning.

Additional duties: Teachers are expected to support the school’s spiritual program by assisting with retreats, school-wide liturgies, and/or community service programs. The teacher is expected to support the school’s co-curricular programs by moderating activities, sports, and/or clubs as well as prefect at various dances and athletic events. The teacher is expected to assist in exam proctoring, classroom substitutions, and lunchtime prefecting.

Requirements

Minimum requirements: A Bachelor’s degree with substantial experience in Catholic theology.

Highly Desirable: B.A. or M.A. in theology from a Catholic college or university and a minimum of three years of teaching experience in a high school setting preferred.
