Position Summary

The Monitor at the Hollywood Corps Men’s Shelter is a supportive service-client aide for 30 homeless single adult men and is a “front line” staff member. Functions include providing security for the facility, enforcing the program rules and regulations, and providing support and encouragement to the residents. The Monitor works and supports the Program Case Managers.

Essential Functions

Provide professional, compassionate, and safe care for all residents. Respond to clients’ needs promptly, professionally, and with courtesy.
General client monitoring to ensure a safe, quiet, and friendly atmosphere is maintained.
Explain rules and procedures to all clients.
Ensure client adherence to program policies and procedures.
Complete intakes as needed.
Enter and update all HMIS data as needed.
Follow all program rules and TSA policies and procedures.
Complete all intake forms and records, establishing an individual resident file for new intakes.
Complete all daily logs, gather all needed signatures and give complete end-of-shift reports to the oncoming shift and the Program Manager and Program Director.
Document and report unusual occurrences, incidents, and injuries.
Ensure that residents' spaces are neat and clean, and hallways are free of obstructions and other safety hazards.
Provide appropriate involvement in coordination with other staff so that safety and security measures are adhered to.
Maintain security inside and outside of the building.
Respond promptly and appropriately to emergencies.
Always maintain resident confidentiality.
Assist Case Managers in completing documentation and tracking residents upon discharge.
Answer and direct incoming calls to the appropriate individuals courteously and professionally.
Monitor client's medication.
Assist with kitchen duties as needed.
Assist with cleaning common areas daily, bed turnovers, and laundry.
Ability to work an irregular schedule with varying hours as needed.

Other duties as assigned by your immediate supervisor and management personnel.

Working Conditions

Ability to walk, stand, bend, squat, climb, kneel and twist on an intermittent or sometimes continuous basis. Ability to be able to lift to 30lbs. Ability to grasp, push, and pull objects such as files, file cabinet drawers and reach overhead: the ability to operate a computer, fax, and telephone.

Minimum Qualifications

High School Diploma or GED required.
Must possess a valid Class C California Driver's License.
Must pass a criminal background check to be eligible for employment.
Six months (or equivalent) of experience working with the homeless population is highly preferred.
Must be able to maintain professional boundaries at all times.
Must maintain a non-judgmental attitude in working with residents and have a harm-reduction approach in all situations.
Ability to operate e computer for word processing and other needs.

Skills, Knowledge & Abilities

HMIS experience preferred.
Effective communication on, or both verbal and written.
Ability to de-escalate and remain calm in all situations.
