Specific Duties and Responsibilities

  • Cultivate a culture of congregational care
    • Create churchwide care structure working alongside elders and deacons
      • Develop a documented pastoral care process and implementation plan for elder and deacon teams
      • Provide consultation to elders and deacons
      • Create supportive protocols and trainings for volunteers and ministry leaders
      • Provide biblical counsel, pastoral care, and spiritual direction in one-on-one encounters, group settings, and teaching contexts
    • Create and curate care documents, training agendas, and resource libraries that support care structure
    • Develop and oversee our referral system for congregants seeking therapeutic care
    • Oversee benevolence team and coordinate efforts for holistic care
    • Coordinate/partner with other agencies and community resources to create a holistic care plan that utilizes services provided by neighboring organizations
  • Create avenues for thriving community life at RLA
    • Oversee community groups and supervise Community Group Director
    • Catalyze efforts to expand congregational capacity towards multicultural community

Partner with Reality LA Ministry Teams

  • Partnership and close collaboration with Discipleship and Missions teams to integrate initiatives and ensure care in all aspects of ministry
    • Identify best practices for providing care and for mastering group dynamics in all demographic groups and ministry areas and ensuring necessary resources are available

 

Executive Leadership Team

This role is part of the Executive Leadership Team that is responsible for upholding the churchs philosophy of ministry, executing the annual strategic plan, and managing ministry teams. As such, the Director of Care & Community will partner with other Executive Leadership Team members in the following responsibilities:

  • Define and cultivate staff culture.
  • Promote comprehensive alignment with the vision and mission of the church.
  • Prioritize the mission of making disciples in all ministry efforts.
  • Determine organizational priorities and needs, particularly when events conflict.
  • Oversee annual strategic planning and alignment process, as well as the support budget and calendar processes.
  • Be responsible for resource allocations, ensuring that such resources as time, money, training, and leadership development are available.

In their role on the Executive Leadership Team, the Director of Care and Community will be specifically responsible for:

  • Coaching and developing team members
  • Building core competency capacity, identifying personnel and volunteer needs.
  • Identifying and monitoring health metrics for ministry success
  • Being the executive spokesperson/advocate for team members.

 

Requirements

& Qualifications

  • Love for Jesus and his church
  • Agreement with the statement of faith, theology, and philosophy of Reality LA
  • Character and lifestyle of a deacon as described in Scripture
  • Love for ministry in an urban context and for the city of Los Angeles
  • Proven leadership in a care/counseling ministry
  • Two or more years experience and formal training in providing Bible-based counseling and/or therapy
  • Masters in Counseling or Spiritual Formation degree
  • Prior work experience at an urban church environment preferred

Knowledge and Skills

  • Ability to exegete biblical texts and communicate the gospel
  • Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills
  • Entrepreneurial spirit in developing and improving systems and materials
  • Eagerness to serve with humility, generosity, and kindness
  • Adaptability to growth and change
