POSITION SUMMARY
TheDirector of Children &Family Ministries is responsible fornurturing faith and belonging among our youngest members and visitors, whilebuilding a community of families. Thisposition will expand and maintain a variety of programs, from newborns up to5th grade, all in partnership with the CFM Committee and WPC Pastoral Staff.

DIRECTOR OF CHILDREN AND FAMILY MINISTRIES JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
Sunday School (Preschool through 5 th grade)

? Establish aSunday School experience that is fun, engaging and inspiring

? Adopt and adjustcurriculum needs based on the age range and developmental needs of theparticipating children

? Recruit, train and nurture volunteersfrom the congregation
Nursery (Newborn through Age 4)

? Establish andmaintain childcare policies to ensure a safe, nurturing environment

? Interview, hireand train staff to care for the children during Sunday morning worship andadditional church-related family events

? Supervisechildcare workers to ensure they fulfill their obligations as outlined in theirjob description and covenant

Seasonal and FamilyActivities
? Plan, coordinateand implement Vacation Bible School (VBS) each summer

? Plan, coordinateand implement two children’s musicals annually, one during the Christmas seasonand one in the summer, including recruiting volunteers to assist with musicalaccompaniment, sets, props, costumes, blocking and rehearsing scenes with children

? Coordinate andorganize in partnership with the CFM committee the following: annual familyretreat, regular family mixers (at least two/year; more preferred), Easter EggHunt, Halloween Trunk-or-Treat, family camping trip, mentoring activities withStudent Ministries (6 th -12 th grade), Advent and Christmasactivities, and a stewardship plan for children, including opportunities togive

Congregational Connections

? Ensure that thechurch-wide calendar is updated with family-related events and that these eventsare listed in News and Concerns

? Plan and deliver the “Children’sMessage” the 2nd Sunday of each month

? Maintaincommunication with the WPC Preschool Director to make sure that preschoolersand their parents are invited to church-related family events

Administration
? Ensure children’s attendance recordsare kept

? Maintain records of expenditures forCFM; help develop and stay within CFM budget

? Monitor andmaintain supplies for CFM including purchasing, developing and distributingcurriculum materials, with assistance from office staff

Communications
? Establish connectionswith new families attending WPC

? Maintain and workwith CFM committee to develop a calendar of family events

? Regularly reachout to families who are members of WPC, engaging them and inviting them to be apart of church events

CHARACTERISTICS, QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS
? Sense of calling to the spiritualdevelopment and Christian education of children

? Strong Christian faith, a commitmentto Christian values and a spirit of inclusiveness (including our LGBTQ+members)

? Ability to engagechildren in an age-appropriate manner, respecting their unique traits andquirks; inspire them to have fun while learning about God

? Proven experienceworking with young children in large and small groups; excellent classroommanagement skills; ability to discern children’s needs to providedevelopmentally appropriate work

? Ability to find creative solutions tostaffing and structuring programs

? Ability to be flexible and to adaptprogramming in light of the pandemic and future construction and remodel of thechurch

? Proven ability to nurture, train andinspire volunteers
? Ability to work independently and inassociation with Pastoral Staff

? Strong computerskills in Microsoft Office programs (Word, Excel) and budgeting

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE
? Bachelor’s degree, preferably inrelated field and/or certified Christian Educator

? Background inchild development, teaching techniques, classroom management, preparing andimplementing curricula, and planning events

ACCOUNTABILITY AND REVIEW

The DCFM reports to the Pastor/Head of Staff, or theirdesignee, and is accountable to the Session through the PersonnelCommittee. Performance review annually.

POSITION SPECIFICS
Hours: Though we are currently offeringthis as a full-time position, we are flexible and could make this a30-hour/week, salaried role with benefits included if the chosen idealcandidate prefers.

Salary: Commensurate with experience
