PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Serve as Guidance Counselor to students participating in the STEP program.

Counseling duties to include but are not limited to:
Four year plans
Graduation Audits
College Counseling
Social/Emotional Support
Supporting counseling and school wide events
Supporting standardized testing and school wide assessments for students that are part of caseload
Work with Counseling Department to support the implementation of rigorous, standards-driven IEPs, manage legal documents and files related to students’ IEPs and 504 plans, liaise with external service providers, ensure all services are in compliance with mandates, and coordinate annual review process of Support Team Education Plan (STEP).
Collaborate with teachers to develop effective whole group practices, small group interventions, and individualized learning activities.
Support teachers in differentiating plans for students based on their unique learning profiles so that all students are engaged and challenged and each student achieves dramatic gains.
Assist teachers with tracking data to determine the effectiveness of interventions.
Lead professional development for content and grade-level teams and the school.
Advise teachers and principal on modification processes for state and school-wide assessments.
Collaborate with content and grade-level teams to promote an environment of critical thinking and academic rigor.
Assumes other responsibilities as assigned by the supervisor.

Requirements

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS
A bachelor’s degree is required, a master’s degree is preferred.
A Credential in Special Education or other relevant field.
At least two years of experience in a special education setting with a record of high student achievement.
Familiarity with the Archdiocese of Los Angeles STEP program and/or IEP process and reporting.
Commitment to the Salesian mission and philosophy of St. John Bosco High School.
Ability to take feedback well and implement changes in a timely manner.
Acute attention to detail coupled with the ability to think and act strategically.
This role requires the ability to work on-site full time.
