Full Job Description

The Major Giving Officer, reporting to the Director of Development in the Mission Advancement office, is a hands-on, proactive, creative role central to the identification, cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship of individual donors of Verbum Dei Jesuit High School. This position supports all fundraising activities of the organization and coordinates all aspects of fundraising, student phone-a-thons, employee campaigns, special events, and planned giving. This position is responsible for developing, maintaining, and stewarding a portfolio of donors and prospective donors through the moves management process.

Verbum Dei Jesuit High School is a Catholic high school located in Watts with an enrollment of approximately 320 students. Part of the Cristo Rey Network, Verbum Dei Jesuit offer young men from supportive families of limited resources a rigorous college preparatory curriculum, integrated with a professional work study experience, and faith formation that prepare them to graduate from college as men with men-with-and-for-others who serve their communities and pursue a more just and human world for all. Position Description

  • Establishing new donor relationships, maintaining existing relationships, and securing funding from donors, on and off campus
  • Developing and managing an active donor stewardship plan that embodies year-round engagement and prioritizes donor retention
  • Writing and delivering excellent written and oral communications to engage and inspire donors; maintaining records of donor communications to ensure data integrity
  • Scheduling and conducting campus tours
  • Planned Giving Program

o Serve as a resource on the Verbum Dei Jesuit Planned Giving approach on and off campus
o Assist in developing marketing materials for current and potential donors

  • Supporting the Senior Vice President of Advancement and the Director of Development in the planning and implementation of all special events, including follow-up on donor solicitations and stewardship strategy
  • Other job duties as required

Requirements

Minimum Requirements

  • At least 3 years of experience in nonprofit fundraising, including a successful history of soliciting and closing gifts
  • Experience building relationships and shepherding donors through the moves management cycle
  • High energy, entrepreneurial spirit, and passion for the mission of Verbum Dei Jesuit High School
  • Strong interpersonal skills and desire to be a part of a collaborative team
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and oral
  • Proficiency with MS Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
  • A commitment to Catholic education
  • Demonstrated ability to connect with low-income, urban students and families
  • A commitment to personal and professional integrity and moral character

Wage Range
$64,500 – $85,000
The rate of pay offered to the selected candidate is based on internal pay policy and budget. New hires are commonly paid at the minimum of the wage range or within the lower part of the range. We consider a number of factors when making compensation decisions including, but not limited to, skill sets, experience, training and other department needs.
