POSITION SUMMARY

To accurately and efficiently perform general accounting and/or payroll procedures.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

Because all Archdiocesan employees represent the Roman Catholic Church, they are expected to conduct themselves according to the goals and mission of the Church in performing their work.

The position of payroll/accounting assistant consists of some or all of the following duties:

  • Researches and responds to inquiries from payroll practitioners, managers, senior management, and others related to payroll, commission calculations, deductions, etc.
  • Assists and/or processes payroll.
  • Assists and/or processes new hires/termination in payroll system.
  • Provides payroll and/or accounting assistance to parishes and schools.
  • Performs related duties as required.
  • Provides payroll reports as requested by supervisor.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education and Experience

Any combination of education and experience likely to provide the required knowledge, skills, and abilities, typically:

  • High School graduate or the equivalent.
  • 3 years of experience in payroll/accounting or a related field.
  • Multi-location payroll processing preferred
  • Strong proficiency in MS Word and Excel
  • HRIS/Payroll systems, ADP preferred

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Knowledge of:

  • Principles and practices of payroll, bookkeeping and accounting.
  • Modern office methods and procedures.
  • Tax form preparation a plus but not required.
  • Wage and Hour law to ensure compliance
  • The ability to uphold Catholic teachings and values.

Skills in:

  • Accounting methods, forms, and techniques.
  • Financial report preparation.
  • High attention to detail and strong organizational/time management skills.

Ability to:

  • Communicate effectively in written and oral form.
  • Develop and maintain effective working relationships.
  • Perform multiple responsibilities in a fast-paced environment.
  • Handle confidential employee and HR information.
  • Maintain confidentiality at all times.
  • Operate adding machine/calculator, check preparation equipment, and keyboard.

Physical and Environmental Requirements:

  • Occasionally lift up to 20 pounds.
  • Sit for sustained periods on a daily basis.
  • Perform tasks requiring intermittent bending, stooping, and walking.
  • Sustain frequent movement of the fingers, wrists, hands, and arms.
