Description – Loyola High School is accepting applications for a Spanish Teacher capable of teaching Spanish language I-III, honors, and AP levels. Candidates should have a strong knowledge and/or background of language instruction and must demonstrate evidence of effective communication, collaboration, and successful teaching pedagogy. Candidates should be able to demonstrate their expertise in teaching Spanish language and literature content through a diverse range of pedagogical techniques. Teachers should be open to professional growth and committed to participation in a Jesuit secondary education setting and must demonstrate evidence of effective communication, collaboration, and aptitude with educational technology.

Subject taught: Five periods of high school Spanish, which may include advanced placement and honors level courses.
Minimum Requirements: Bachelor’s degree in Spanish and experience teaching in a high school setting. The candidate must also have knowledge of the Advanced Placement programs.

Desired Education: Graduate degree in Spanish and/or a teaching credential.

Primary duties: Incumbent will teach five periods of Spanish in a college-preparatory environment. This will involve lesson planning, lesson presentation, student assessment, and individualized student support as needed. Faculty members are also part of a professional learning community for one period. The individual will develop, plan and present lessons in Spanish to students in a classroom setting, utilizing course material and other appropriate learning material and teaching pedagogy. The individual will supervise, monitor, assign, and evaluate students. In addition, the teacher will establish and maintain standards of student behavior needed to achieve a functional learning atmosphere in the classroom, maintain appropriate and timely records of student progress, communicate with parents, and establish and maintain an effective environment for students, in order to foster learning.

Additional duties: Teachers are expected to support the school’s spiritual program by assisting with retreats, school-wide liturgies, and/or community service programs. The teacher is expected to support the school’s co-curricular programs by moderating activities and/or clubs as well as prefect at various dances and athletic events. The teacher is expected to assist in exam proctoring, classroom substitutions, and lunchtime prefecting.

Salary Range: $60k – $75k

The rate of pay offered to the selected candidate is based on internal pay policy and budget. New hires are commonly paid at the minimum of the wage range or within the lower part of the range. We consider a number of factors when making compensation decisions including, but not limited to, skill sets, experience, training and other department needs.
