Salary Range: $21.26 - $31.89

The rate of pay offered to the selected candidate is based on internal pay policy and budget. Candidates are paid at the minimum of the salary range or no higher than the first quartile of the salary range. We consider a number of factors when making compensation decisions including, but not limited to, skill sets, experience, training, and other department needs.

POSITION SUMMARY

Work under the guidance of the PREP Director and Project Manager as the Substance Abuse Workshop Coordinator of the Partnership for Re-Entry Program (PREP).

This position works closely with the Program Manager and Director of the Partnership for Reentry Program (PREP) and is tasked with a support system for people with drug and alcohol problems and other behavioral issues. In addition, its focus is to teach individuals how to modify their behavior with the intention of full recovery.

As the Substance Workshop Coordinator, you will be responsible for leading workshops to meet the requirements for participant graduation while maintaining flexibility to meet the unforeseen issues and topics that may arise with the participants.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

Because all Archdiocesan employees represent the Roman Catholic Church, they are expected to conduct themselves according to the goals and mission of the Church in performing their work.

  • Work closely with the Director and Project Manager at PREP to develop and implement this pilot program.
  • Maintain accurate documentation including intake summaries, group notes, treatment plans if needed and updates
  • Identify problem areas that may impact participants ability to successfully complete treatment
  • Provide inmates with information about addiction issues and about available services and programs
  • Work in collaboration with the Project Manager, work to create a comprehensive addiction education course, curriculum and scheduling of the activities and topics specific to each workshop, which includes goals and the steps to be taken to meet those goals.
  • Monitor participants progress and ensure they are on the right path to recovery.
  • Facilitate group therapy sessions.
  • Counsel participants in group sessions to assist in overcoming substance dependencies, adjusting to life, and making changes
  • Facilitate and co-facilitate educational presentations and group counseling on substance related matters
  • Have a working knowledge of support agencies such as Alcoholics Anonymous
  • Research and write a comprehensive course curriculum for the 11-week workshop
  • Provide relevant feedback to lessons
  • Maintain a strong and communicative relationship with the CDCR CRM’S administrative team throughout the workshop cycle
  • Provide written workshop notes, including attendance numbers, incident reports, and overall topics and discussion that was covered, etc.
  • Prepare and deliver required reports in an accurate, timely, and easily understood format
  • This position requires long-distance driving to and from various CDCR prisons. A valid driver’s license and auto insurance is required
  • Ensure safety and emotional well-being to the best of your ability through each individual workshop by providing support and guidance as seen fit
  • Report any absences or behavior that is harmful to the workshop and its participants
  • Uphold the Mission, Vision and Values of the Archdiocese of Los Angeles (ACC) and of PREP
  • Collaborate, and keep open communication with, the PREP management
  • Recognize other responsibilities as they arise in the first pilot session

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education and Experience

  • AA or bachelor's degree or higher in a related field
  • CADTP certification required or equivalent certification
  • Minimum of two years’ experience counseling criminal justice population in a substance abuse population
  • Understands and accepts Restorative Justice principles and practices
  • Commitment to Gospel values and a consistent life ethic
  • Have compassion, appreciation and love for the incarcerated and parolee population
  • Computer experience in Outlook, Microsoft, Excel

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

Knowledge of:

  • Archdiocesan and Church policies, procedures and organization
  • California prison system: CDCR (California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation)
  • Understanding and appreciation of inmates and parolees
  • Provide substance abuse counseling and recovery skills training
  • Outlook, Excel, Word, related software
  • Broad overview of PREP
  • Previous experience with the treatment of substance abuse disorders.

Skills in:

  • Weekly team (directors and project manager) meetings for review of on-going progress and changes needed to improve work integrity and efficiency

Ability to:

  • Accompany the present director to the prisons to present the PREP program courses to the inmates when feasible.
  • Prepares and presents lectures as assigned
  • Identify recovery interference situations
  • Educate participants about coping mechanisms
  • Conduct group therapy sessions for participants:
  • Work independently, cooperatively and responsibly as a PREP TEAM
  • Develop and maintain effective working team relationships with PREP management.
  • Use technology resources and possess typing, computer and spreadsheet skills sufficient to meet needs of job
  • Communicate effectively in written and oral form.

Physical and Environmental Requirements:

  • Occasionally lift up to 20 pounds.
  • Sit for sustained periods of time on a daily basis.
  • Perform tasks requiring intermittent bending, stooping, and walking.
  • Sustain frequent movement of the fingers, wrists, hands, and arms.
