College-age young adults and recent college graduates play a key role in the Read Lead Summer Literacy Institute program in the position of Servant Leader. Each Read Lead Servant Leader serves as the teacher for a maximum of 10 students. Servant Leaders have access to further leadership development and networking opportunities geared toward continued direct service and advocacy on behalf of children and families.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as a positive role model for all students.

  • Supervise and maintain safety of students at all times.

  • Maintain a professional decorum at all times, locally and while on the Read Lead GCLA campus.

  • Set up, manage and break down classroom space according to standards developed by Read Lead.

  • Engage a maximum of 10 students per class in the Summer Reading Curriculum as outlined in the guide provided by Read Lead.

  • Attend all required trainings. Tentative dates: April 23rd, May 7th, June 4th and 5th

  • In addition to facilitating the Read Lead GCLA Summer Reading Curriculum with fidelity, serve as Cheer/Chant leaders, afternoon activities facilitators, and field trip chaperones.

  • Collaborate with other staff to establish and maintain a supportive and structured environment for the students entrusted in their care.

  • Engage students during meal times and structured recess.

  • Partner with the Site Coordinator and staff for the planning and implementation of the Wellness Day, parent engagement activities, and additional enrichment activities.

  • Report any issues or concerns regarding students in the program to the Site Coordinator.


 

Qualifications

  • Must have completed at least one year of college and have plans to complete the college degree (typical age range is 18-30).

  • Maintain or have graduated with at least a 3.0 G.P.A. (overall or within the major)

  • Ability to motivate others and work as part of an intergenerational team.

  • Strong appreciation and understanding of individual cultural history and the willingness to be open and respectful of all cultures.

  • Solid commitment to the success and well-being of children.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

  • Exhibit positive behavior and attitude, modeling.

  • Authorization for background check for criminal and child protective findings.

 

Important Dates and Expectations

1. You will be hired from June 27th-August 5th , 2022. Monday through Friday 7:30am to 2:30pm

2. You are required to attend and participate in the Read Lead Servant Leadership Institute (Staff) trainings: Tentative dates: April 23rd, May 7th, June 4th and 5th

3. Mandatory orientation and classroom setup-TBD

5. Attend weekly parent meetings during program operation (one per week)
