Essential Functions:
Instructional Coaching and Teacher Support

  • Assist the principal in leading teachers towards consistent use of evidenced-based instructional strategies to increase student achievement
  • Advise, support, and mentor individual teachers to improve instruction through:

– Consistent classroom observation and feedback
– Facilitating curriculum planning and evaluate annual, unit and lesson plans
– Promoting continuous, high-quality (formative and summative) assessment as a means for evaluating student achievement

  • Assist the principal in the appointment, observation, supervision, and evaluation of teachers
  • Collaborate with the principal to develop and implement effective professional development plans
  • Lead the effort to upgrade the level and quality of professionalism among teachers with regards to:

– Classroom environment and management
– Student/faculty relationships and behavior
– Internal communication
– Compliance with school policies regarding dress code and professional behavior
– Oversee academic support program, office hours, tutoring, academic probation

  • Monitor RenWeb and other learning management system, ensuring proper design and educational support
  • Assist teachers and staff with use of instructional technology in classroom lessons

Student Success

  • Monitor and track the academic performance of all students
  • Communicate with teachers, parents, and other administrators about student difficulties, supports, and

interventions

  • Lead the Director of Student Support and Director of Counseling to identify and respond to student needs
  • Oversee and direct all academic support programs (HERO, Tutoring)
  • Communicate regularly with parents to promote parent involvement and student success

Supervision Responsibilities

  • Supervises Dean of Students, Campus Ministry, and Counseling Departments

Administrative Responsibilities

  • Participate in Admissions Committee meetings
  • Coordinate progress report and report card generation
  • Collaborates with the Principal, Director of Corporate Internship Program, and Dean of Students on issues related

to academic policy, the student handbook, and the code of student conduct

  • Support the assessment process for reading, math, and other related assessments (PSAT, SAT, ACT, AP).
  • Oversee summer school
  • Participate and oversee a variety of evening or weekend activities, as needed
  • Serve as Acting Principal when Principal is away from the school
  • Teach 1 section as needed
  • Complete other and additional duties as assigned by the Principal

Requirements

Desirable Qualifications:

  • Masters degree preferred
  • Coursework in Learning Differences, Curriculum, Urban Education preferred
  • Personal commitment to the Jesuit mission and work-study nature of the school
  • Successful experience as a teacher or administrator in a Catholic or independent

school

  • Successful experience working with students and parents in an urban setting.

Additional Duties:
Additional duties include weekly yard duty, proctoring, study hall monitoring, after-school
tutoring and substitute teaching. All Verbum Dei teachers need to feel comfortable with, and
actively participate in, the spiritual and co- curricular aspects of the school.
